It was the same with me. It change was not instantaneous but I promise you I still remember being encountered with Romans the first time in my life. It was that moment that broke down everything in my life. Now, it took me seven or eight years before I finally broke away from the doctrine. I loved the movement and everything I knew was in that apostolic movement so it was very hard to leave. I tried to reconcile it first.
Gillespie doesn't claim that it was overnight that he changed. His testimony talks about how hard it was to change his beliefs.
This makes me feel a bit better. I dont agree with the guy. Not in the least. But at least I can respect a person who gives some thought and time and agony over such decisions.
I have zero respect for those who are blown by every wind of doctrine. Those that spend time thinking about things. doing real study etc, even if I think they have walked into heresy, I can respect thier process.

In Acts 9:19-25 in seems he began preaching right away in Damascus. Then in verse 26 it speaks of him coming to Jerusalem. This may have been the 15 days he spent with Peter and James spoken of in Galatians 1:18-19. In verse 30 of that same 9th chapter of Acts he seems to drop out of view again and the churches "had rest." The 3 years in Arabia could fit into either of these places. In AD 42 Barnabas was sent by the leaders in Jerusalem to check out the church in Antioch because of the number of Gentiles in it. in Acts 11:25 Barnabus goes to Tarsus to seek for Saul and brings him to Antioch possibly in early AD 43. In the latter part of Acts 11 a prophet named Agabus prophesies of a famine that was coming. There was a poor harvest in AD 45 and a failed harvest in AD 46. It seems that Paul took food to the church at Jerusalem in AD 46 which would have been 14 years after his conversion and this is spoken of in Galatians 2:1-2. The going to Jerusalem "by revelation" may mean in response to the prophecy of Agabus a couple years before. It is recorded in the first few verses of Acts 13 that Paul and others were ministering as prophets and teachers in the Antioch assembly and he left there in March AD 47 (beginning of the sailing season for what we call his first missionary journey.
thank you Sam

Refusing to sit under the false gospel and false doctrine of false teachers is not "forsaking the Assembly"
Brother Sam I respect you. I love you and I dont want to be unkind or disrespectfull...
but saying that Romans is a pretty good book is like saying water is wet or oxygen is nice for breathing.
The notion that a preacher got to be a preacher without having a grasp of Romans seems about as stupid a think as possible. Romans is vital. Im just mind boggled that a preacher "read romans" and changed his doctrine....after BEING A PREACHER??? AFTER BEING A PASTOR???
We may not agree on all points. We many not agree on some things that we both think are important that are addressed in Romans... but the suggestion that some guy who has given his life to the service of God one day decided to "read romans" and got some brand new revealation is just mind boggling.
Why don't you read his stuff before you go off? You are likely to break a knee like that. LOL He's not stupid, he makes a pretty good case for how he got where he is.

Sam I have spent time with such a preacher. In fact I’m my early 20's while on AIM in South America, I spent a month in Curacao teaching his church some of our doctrine. They were Trinitarians and the pastor came to an understanding of Oneness.
That too was a process. If I were to come in contact with a guy like you describe I would spend a good deal of time talking to him.
I’ve lived just long enough to know that epiphanies are rare and the purview of the novice. Almost always for people who have been around for any amount of time, the moment of change occurs after a period of reflection.... often a period that is long and internally torturous.
Sorry, Ferd, you've made some very erroneous assumptions about Bernie, you are way off the beam.

Just another guy who departed from the faith and is more Baptist than anything else.
Many Baptists are in "the faith".
Well, someone has to say it!

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths
Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945
"It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves
A number of them get close to the faith, but then turn aside before they actually have to truly face what they believe and the consequences of that belief.
