The panels also have a 25 year warrant so once they are paid off it is just savings after that.

Re: Going Solar

You may be surprised. We had gotten a couple of quotes over the past three years and prices, while still expensive, have plummeted. Just a year ago a different company quoted us a price which was nearly twice as much as we ended up paying for this project. I follow such things but was still shocked at how much it had come down.

Another not so small thing is that you DO need to be living in an area with good average yearly sunshine. Until the price comes down again by half (or efficiency doubles) it still doesn't make any sense for anyone living in a Midwest state to instal solar. Oh yes, and you need a roof face that points at least somewhat Southward.

The panels are Suntech brand. The company that designed and did the installation is called Solar Universe.

Re: Going Solar

The panels were finally turned on this morning! Even though it was cloudy and rainy until about 11 this morning they still produced more electricity then our house used during daylight hours.

Was there a delay? Waiting for inspection, or something?

It took two weeks from the time we told the company we wanted to go for it to the time the install was finished. It took 7 weeks for our electric utility to turn them on! A couple of inspections (both of which gave us a passed) and lots of paperwork since our house is now officially an electric producing utility.
