I see nothing wrong with having employees or servants if you can afford to pay them properly.
As a Christian we should treat them well, better than average even for the sake of the Gospel.
The slavery that happened in America is historically different than the context in which Paul talks about slavery.

Gee, I hope I never get asked to "elucidate". I don't know what that means. Could someone explain this, please?

This thread made me think of something I heard a Mexican American comedian say one time. He said that when he became successful and had made a lot of money he bought his parents a home with a garden out front then he hired white people to pick the lettuce so his parents could sit on their front porch and sip iced tea while watching white people pick their lettuce. LOL.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Imagine Paul had told the slaves to leave their masters and Masters to free their slaves. What kind of turmoil do you think that would have brought on the church world wide (through out the Roman empire) when other slaves saw what was happening?
Also being "set free" did not make those slaves necessarily free. Some other slave owner could take then and he might be very wicked

Oh, so it means, "Could someone explain this to me, please?". So, I have been elucidated. Thank you for the elucidation education.
