Wow... that's a good question. That's a thread all it's own there.
It's really not, but it's frazzled a few people. "Bar" means "son of". Bartimaeus was the Son of Timaeus, and Bartholomew was Son of Tholomew. So he was either Nathaniel Bartholomew or (other scholars think) was Phillip, just as Simon was Peter. http://ecole.evansville.edu/glossary/natbar.html

"God inhabits the praises of his people"
"touch not mine anointed" in relation to simply not talking about the preacher. The anointed in the verse quoted refers to the nation of Israel, all of God's people.

I love this post, it is amazing how we believe for years things to be in the Bible, and what a shock when we find out they're not! I for one, never noticed it said "street" of gold, had always thought of it as streets - don't know if that makes a difference, but interesting anyhow!
Amazing what you learn on here!
Keep it coming folks! ....
I never noticed the street thing either.
As ministers we should guard against preaching concepts (with apologies to Brother Blume for using his word... that wasn't directed at you).
It would change a lot in all kinds of churches if we would go by this rule... if it isn't in the Bible... don't preach it.
That's a good one! However that "again" always gets thrown in there because it is used several other times in that same chapter reference ... John 3:3 "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God"
JOhn 3:7: "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
But the context of the verse is changed radically if one uses the word "Again" in verse 5. Being born of the water and of the Spirit and being born again of the water and Spirit leaves on with a different meaning.

"Many Christians do not try to understand what was written in a verse in the Bible. Instead they approach the passage to prove what they already believe."
I tried to find it soon after I got in church. Not there. There is a similar verse, but what we quote isn't a quote at all. Psalm 22:3
