Re: Wealthy People Have It So Bad In America
That wont compute for JD ,no sense in trying .In his mind if Obama was president he would just make the bar owner give everyone free drinks forever. Then he would give the bar owner a stimulus to stay in business. And tell the ten guys dont worry there is more money where that came from. And if they were all Dems they would believe him!!

QUOTE=Praxeas;962815That may be, but it portrays some sort of injustice that exists because some people have more money than others, which also suggests those that have more money got it through corrupt means.
|
I'm not sure he said that. He just believes in taxing those with $200,000 or more per year.
Quote:
The real issue here though with JD has nothing to do with an injustice because some people have more money than we do. Aside from Paris Hilton who got her wealth because of her parents, most Americans are hard working Americans who went to college and worked their way up. I refuse to cheapen their success with the word injustice nor do I demand half of what they make just because they have more than I do.
|
I am not sure that that is what the real issue is. I think it is very hard to see people born with advantage while you have to claw your way up. It is not always about people who work hard. Sometimes it is about people who have more than you do because they were born with the right parents and people who work their tail off and can't get ahead because they didn't have the right opportunities. It can make a person downright ticked. That said, I don't agree with JD's view on how the problem is going to be fixed. Unfortunately, not everything in life is fair and taxing those who made more than $200,000 a year is not going to help the economy, IMO nor will it rid the world of this social injustice. But JD is angry about social injustice, I think.....I don't think it's about jealousy towards people who are working harder than he is.

Many of those people with a lot of money give HUGE sums to charity too.
I didn't say anything harsh, and I stand by that

I disagree, as is my right.

Re: Wealthy People Have It So Bad In America
It's merely legislated morality... at least the modern definition of social justice is. And usually it's someone else's morality that is legislated. The system is so messed up because both sides want bigger government; liberals want more social justice and want the rich (or the "better-off") to pay for it. Conservatives want to have foreign social justice and help people become more democratic -- and, again, want the "better-off" to pay for it.
The fact is that with both sides stealing (and, yes, it is theft) from the citizens until they can't anymore -- and if they can't then they just print the money. Out of thin air. What happens then? The most basic tenant of economics is easily understood. Supply and demand. The more of something there is, the less it is worth. Therefore printing more paper out degrades the US Dollar because there is such a supply for it.
Keynes was wrong. And we're seeing it in action.

Yes, it is very frustrating that when the politicians don't get their way, they just print the money and we pay through inflation anyway.

First of all nobody is proposing NOT taxing them.
Second of all, what he really believes is INCREASING taxes...making them pay more taxes than they are already paying, which is already a lot more than the rest of us that don't make 200k a year.
What does injustice have to do with that?

It's not their fault they were born with an advantage or we were not. It's not an injustice. We don't live in India. Most people born into a family with advantages had parents that worked their butts off to get them that advantage. Remember we are not talking about the Hiltons, but someone making a 200k which is far far far FAR away from someone that has 10 cars, a private jet and never has to drive on the freeway because of a private Helicopter (Kobe flies to home games in a helicopter).
I have a friend, she is a female, black. Her mother and father had a very humble life, lived in a small 3 bedroom home. He was an engineer. He was pretty smart but as an engineer for the government, he was not bringing home a 6 figure income,
She spent most of her life in college, the last college she went to was Columbia. She was working on her Phd. In the meanwhile she scored a 6 figure income job. Where is the injustice? Where is the advantage?
I refuse to see injustice everywhere just because I don't have as much as others. You want to talk about those that have in excess like the Hiltons, who run around flashing their skin and making pornos and getting in traffic accidents and daddy getting them out? Be my guest. Im sure we can all agree that they are spoiled brats who probably never gave a dime to charity for the reason of caring. But this thread is not about the Hiltons.
If you want to know what it's about, read the other threads the author created about the tax issue

That's not an injustice on the head of the rich. Stop blaming those with money unless you can tell me name and crime

No he isn't lol. If he were he should tell us what the injustice was. Give us names and their crime. He is peed because he thinks those with more money than he is, who are already paying MORE taxes should be bled even MORE to cover more freebies our government wants to give out. He wants a socialistic revolution like they had in Venezuela
