I've always heard that verse connected with the re-establishment of Israel as a nation in 1948. And a generation being 40 years and added onto that, 1988 being the "Last year". That didn't work out either, did it?
But with the common consideration of a generation being 40 years, 70AD was 30 years past that. Oh well, whatever.
I thought Jesus began his ministry in his 30's? Wouldn't 70 AD have been almost exactly 40 years from the beginning of his ministry?
The heresy hunters are still with us. Only now, instead of stakes, they use their books and radio programs to destroy those they consider heretics.... I'm concerned that heresy hunting may be turning into leukemia because some cultwatchers seem more intent on destroying parts of the body than healing the body....

Jfrog, you are correct!

"At Hand" has to be used consistantly throughout the Bible. You can't use it as a few years in one place and thousands of years in another.
They have some really smart people in Borger Texas.
Thank you.

They believe Christ returned in 70 ad when Rome destroyed Jerusalem.

But AD time goes to the beginning of Jesus' birth, not his death. So evidently, the timing in this "Preterism" system, to measure the traditional understanding of "generation" begins at his death, not his birth?

Interesting.
No. When Christ said this generation shall not pass he was about 30 years old and the time was about 30 AD. One (40 year) generation from 30 AD was 70 AD. You are trying to say he meant HIS generation which would have started at his birth. That is not what he said. He said THIS generation.
