As far as footnotes, I don't know. 5 albums released in the last 10 years, the 1st one was gold and the rest have been platinum. That is pretty good staying power.
That is what is great about art, though. It is all subjective to the individual's tastes.

I agree with what you said about art. I will say this IF MUSE is a footnote then the subject must be one of the greatest British band of all time with 4 Platinum albums, multiple music award nominations, and one of the strongest cultural followings that any band has garnered in a long time. Yes, the foot note of that statement would be MUSE.

I listen to rock stations everyday. It's just about the only thing I listen to. I don't listen to much pop-rock though.
I've listened to 2 or 3 songs by MUSE now. I didn't really like any of them. To be honest I'm pretty amazed that they are big at all. Then again from what I can tell they are only in the U.S. because of Twilight. So for me that explains it.

They may not be a footnote in the UK...but unless they develop wide appeal like the Stones, or the Beatles or even U2...they will be considered a footnote in toto.

Certainly the Twilight Saga has helped to shine a light on them here in the States but they were charting songs in the states before Twilight was even written. Some if not most of the albums they have released were pre-Twilight anyway. If you don't like them that is cool. That is your opinon. Truth is that they are relevant to music of today. Most of their songs have a pretty good message. Just saying....

The band that you have mentioned have been BIG for greater than 20 years! Most of the bands that have had tremendous careers still haven't been around 20+ years like the U2, Beatles, 'Stones, Motley Crew, etc. But taking their history from the beginning to now MUSE has been extremely sucessful even here in the states. To compare band like MUSE to U2 is not fair because they are so different musically. Some of their fan base bleeds over from one to another, but it is not a fair comparison because the band you mentioned have been around at least 2 times as long as MUSE. Believe me I am a huge U2 fan and I know that there is no comparison between them and MUSE, though I like them both.

Also I meant to mention the it is actually tougher to have platinum albums these days than previously. With all the illegal piracy and the ability to record on cd's and dvd's make it less likely to have a platinum album now than 5 years ago. Also I don't believe that individual song downloads count toward the platinum status. I checked on Wiki-Answers and found that the only way downloads count toward gold, platinum, mutli-platinum and diamond-platinum is when they full entire album is downloaded and can be verified with a reciept of transaction. This is the same for cd's, dvd's, cd platters and video sales. Keep in mind that to be certified platinum the record must sale at least 1 million copies in the first 14 months. The multi-platinum and diamond-platinum or generally obtained and given to records that are older than 14 months.

Re: Muse.....the band
I first heard them because of Guitar Hero. Definitely have a Queen vibe.

You and I have talked about U2 on here before....check your profile wall.
I saw U2 in Phoenix this year. BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!
I could watch it again almost everyday of my life but I wouldn't accomplish anything if I did.
