OK, after looking at it I would recommend you stick with XP. For one thing it is free since the box came with it, where you would have to pay for Windows 7. But it only has 512 megs (unless you upgraded since you bought it -and would recommend you do that regardless, to at least 1 gig).
Sorry, it does have one Gig. I think I should at least double that.

If you are able then yes, I would double it to 2 gigs. And if your then willing to pay for the Win 7 32 bit upgrade, I would seriously consider doing it. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it does so many things so much better then XP ever did.
(However, upgrading from XP to Windows 7 is a bit more tricky then going from Vista to 7.......)

I agree, just stick with XP. And ideally I'd want 2 gigs on an XP system but 1 gig is the min

Randy if I have a dual core x2 64 AMD can I run the 64 bit version? Isn't the 64s all 64 bit CPUs?
Also won't a lot of my current software not run on a 64bit OS?
BTW Major problem with my Pastors PC. I built as a present for him. It's been working flawlessly for months until last week.
It starts rebooting repeatedly over and over. Then I tried to go into the bios and it would reboot before I can look around.
When I get to it today and it does not reboot in the bios Im gonna see if it is overheating or if for some reason the min temp was changed to a lower setting. I don't now why or how, unless there was something with an electrical spike or outing that did something or the cmos battery died?
Well if that does not work Im gonna replace the memory modules to see if it's that, next is the PS.
You ever have this problem?

Acronis rocks. Avoid NORTON at all costs. I use Acronis tools for partitioning...got a Laptop and you want to recover some hard drive space on the second partition? This is your program.
I have Norton Ghost...after installing it I had no RAM left lol...kidding but you get the picture? Talk about bloatware
I have Norton virus protection is that the same thing you are talking about?

Just before I graduated from college, they upgraded the mainframe by doubling memory. From 256K to 512K!
My new computer has 1TB of memory. I hope I can get by on that.

Often funny and random rebooting issues are related to bad memory. I would remove all but one stick and try booting, if successful, then try booting with the other. If THAT doesn't work (the memory, not the test), then it is a good thing because you identified the problem. Another issue I find is common is the power supply. I have had my share go bad and they can cause weird, seemingly random problems as well. The other thing is resetting the CMOS which is usually done by bridging a couple of pins on the motherboard for a few seconds.
No. Norton is the publisher. They make their antivirus program (which is surprisingly good this year) but they also make other stuff like Ghost.
Oh ok, thanks.
