Wow, this discussion, which, BTW, seems to have drifted from Timmy's orginal intent. (Sorry, Bro!) has got me to thinking. (I do that on occasion). Job was a perfect man. Yet, if I read the story right, I see some character flaws (self-righteousness and pity, a little judgmentalism). So maybe he wasn't so perfect afterall. But God said he was...and who am I to argue with God? Unless God ses perfection differently than I do.
I read somewhere that Michealangelo (Sorry, Mike's not from around here, so spelling may be off) once said that an uncut piece of stone was a perfect work of art. He said that because, until it is cut into, that stone has the potential of becoming anything he can make it into.
Sometimes, I think God sees us that way. As an uncut stone, willing to be molded into whatever He chooses us to be. In God's eyes we are perfect when we are willing to become nothing more than a lump of clay in the potters hands. We begin perfect... but become even more perfect by His touch. A diamond in the rough is perfect in its natural state. It takes the hands of a Master to let that diamond be seen. Job, too, was perfect in that he loved God and hated evil. Can anyone but Job be any more perfect than that? Loving God is to put your life into His hands and say, "Here I am, Lord... mold me". Oh, Lordy, I believe I'm gonna have me a spell!!!
We return you now to your regularly scheduled programming....

Waiting for the Lord is easy... Waiting patiently? Not so much.
This is an interesting theory. You have me wanting to re-study Job.
Job was under the OT covenant and the Bible tells us that whatsoever things we bind on earth are bound in heaven. Greater is HE that is in us, than he that is in the world.

Are you saying that under the OT covenant, those NT principles didn't apply? Even the "greater is he" principle?

I've heard preachers say that for years, but what's the basis for it? Is there scripture?
Funny that YOU should ask for scripture but here you go:
Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men 1 kings 8:39

Ah yes, that makes sense. But it says "of all the children of men". Maybe Satan is finite and can't get around to everyone, but can hear some thoughts, sometimes?
(Hey, even I'm up for a good theoretical/Biblical discussion, now and then! )

I can only tell you of my experience....
When I was much younger, I woke up from a disturbing sleep, when I tried to push the covers off, I couldn't move my arms. There was a heavy something on my chest pushing me down to the point I could not breathe. There was also a frightening aura-spirit-presence?? that is hard to describe, but to this day I can't forget it. I tried to scream out but I couldn't.
My mother passed the room doorway and immediately felt something and without even seeing me or hearing me, she ran into the room and started praying, yelling, screaming the Name of Jesus and started speaking in tongues. I immediately was able to breath, I scrambled out of bed into her arms where she held me and continued to pray over me. That's when I knew that there is an evil one and the Bible told the Truth.
The good news is...I gotta day off school!!!!! Stoopid devil!!!!
I've had a similar experience but I woke up to an evil presence that I couldn't see who was threatening me ( I can't remember everything that it said). I couldn't move or talk but eventually in my mind called on Jesus and it left.

Ever heard of sleep paralysis? Demons used to be (and sometimes still are) blamed for epilepsy, too.
A Satanist would laugh at your comment.

I use to preach...back when I was a preacher.... a sermon entitled Serpents Seed. No, not of the William Branham variety. Again, I feel it necessary to emphasize: I DO NOT BELIEVE THE SERPENTS SEED AS TAUGHT BY BROTHER WILLIAM BRANHAM. I used the Serpents Seed title to garner attention. You oughta see the preachers grabbin' their Bibles to prove me wrong!
The Serpents Seed is just what Satan did in the garden and still does so today. Take a part of Gods Word, twist it just enough to divert a person from what God intended, and decieve them. The enemy in one of the parables of Jesus, sowed tares in with the wheat. A little false mixed in with the truth makes it hard to see the difference. The JFK assassination is a good example. The truth of the events of Nov. 22, 1963 was right there in front of us. The problem was, we couldn't distinquish truth from all the false.
Satan successfully diverted Eves attention from what God said to what he (the serpent) wanted Eve to believe. His greatest and most effective tool, especially among the Christians? The Bible you read everyday. The devil tried it in tempting Jesus. He did it in Pauls day and he continues to do so today. Sow a little false in with the good. Soon we are headin' down the slippery slope into the abyss.
