Re: Palin Furious At Letterman.

I'm really shocked that the liberal "The View" said Letterman was wrong!

Even Whoopie......wow!

I think his apology (toward Willow, the 14 year old) was sincere. I'd like to think that had he really KNOWN it was the younger one that he wouldn't have read the joke.

However, he did......
However, he stated that he checked, before the program, to see if the girl was of age in order to allow him to make a sexually induced joke about her.

Now, common sense would tell me that SOMEONE on his staff would have to point out that Willow was with the Palins in NY as that is what the news was reporting.

There is no way, I will ever believe they missed that. He tried to save his hide - plain as the nose on my face! The evidence is in the stuttering apology that I listened to which only allowed me to see how lame he really is.

Agreed!!!! I don't want anyone talking about my girls disrespectfully, no matter what mistakes they make.

I agree with the cheap, dirty and uncalled for. However, age does matter. It's different to make a joke about an underage girl, which would color the joke as statutory rape, rather than promiscuous sex. So is DL familiar with cheap, dirty and uncalled for? Without a doubt.

However, he's not a shock jock. He's just a late night comedy show host. And there are boundaries he's (usually) too smart to cross. I'm just not buying that it was intentional on his part. Neglectful, maybe. But not an intentional joke about a kid having sex.

I agree - - someone wasn't UPFRONT with him on his staff.

Personally, I think that was a lie. If anything, he was negligent, and that's what got him into hot water.

You obviously don't watch DL. He always stutters.

As a mother, I understand Palin's reaction, no matter which daughter was being referenced. I'm just not as willing to crucify DL across the board for bad taste, and call the comments something they weren't.
Uh, go back and read his lame "first" apology, which no one in the news media viewed as being sincere.

I would NEVER AGREE with Whoopie, but she was livid about it too - - -

I think someone on his staff needs to be fired -- there's no way he knew it was the 14 year old.

He lied. His second apology was lame. One WEEK later, it's a forced apology by the show's producers.

That's my take. I think someone on his staff either fed him the joke without the info, and he neglected to dig deeper, or they outright lied to him about which girl it was. He's just not that stupid. He's been on the air for years--he knows the rules. Kids are always off limits.
