"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I have never (we) had much money although I now live in a very nice home that was paid in full for us by a friend. However our people know that fact and are not jealous because they have followed our lives for over 40 years…some remember me washing clothes in the creek and cooking with wood stoves! It makes me mad too. Who says that people who minister should be poverty stricken? I think they are blessed and HIGHLY favored of the Lord and deserve what they get.

Ignorance comes from not knowing or walking in the shoes of the other.
You know the whole story and for that you will always be blessed.
Continue the good work...

Re: What makes you mad?
Preacher killers make me mad.
And no, I don't mean the ones who kill with guns.
I'm talking about the killers who sling fiery words like poison darts.

Re: What makes you mad?
I started to be flippant and post "the debbil", then I read the thread. God bless you and Bro. Alvear for the work you do, and the love that sustains your burden.
Back in 1995, I went to Mexico with a group of preachers. I was often embarrassed by their behavior. The term "ugly American" was very appropriate.
