That's in Canadian money. In US dollars, he paid $2.08.
I don't know who you quoted here but in Canada gas is sold by the liter and is usually quite a bit more expensive. (I have a bazillion Canadian relatives.)

Ron is the one who originally posted, but he wasn't referring to liters, I don't believe. They don't pay THAT much for a liter, although I agree that they pay more than we do.
So, you aren't really American then?

Yes. I am. My mother just gained her citizenship in the last 10 years or so. t I hear I could get dual citizenship but I would have to apply for it.

Why is it gas more expensive in Canada than in the US, when Canada drills for its own oil, and doesnt have to import it like we do here?
Taxes
In the USA: "The nationwide average tax on gasoline is 48.4 cents per gallon as of October 2008, down 1 cent from July 2008."
For comparison sake, that's 12.8 cents per litre.
In Canada, on average, taxes represent 32% of the pump price. (@ $1/litre pump price, the tax/litre is 32 cents versus the American average of 12.8 cents/litre)
Our current price per litre is about $1, which translates to $3.78 per US Gallon (We use the Imperial gallon which is substantially larger @ $4.56). The current exchange rate is .80 which means that our current pump price for gasoline is $3.02 USD per US gallon.
