He was called Barry most of his life - is that what you are thinking about?
Was Barry suppose to be a nickname for Barak?

I read your post the first time. Under Prohibitted is "official use". Wearing the uniform is "official use". I know, I was in the military and we had rules of conduct while in uniform.
I agree. He shouldn't have used his official uniform in a personal capacity for unofficial business like campaigning for John McCain. If he wanted to go campaign for John McCain that's fine. Take off the tax payer provided uniform, put on your wife beater and go get the crowd all riled up with Hussein. Tax payers who aren't supporting McCain wouldn't be interested in him wearing their uniform.

NO there are some sensible folks that believe George W Bush has done some great things for America. Do we agree with everything he has done? No. And I doubt there will ever be a president you or I agree with 100% of the time.
You really do swallow hook line an sinker anything the liberal media dishes out.

No, it has nothing to do with the liberal media, it has to do with the eight years of blunders he's subjected the country too. The great majority of which are documented fact.

you mean blunders like how he messes up words? or blunders like how you are going to tell us all how he lied about WMDs?
Look, Im pretty mad at him right now over the 700 billion dollar boondoggle but he sure gets credit for there not being another terror attack on the US since 9/11.
Victor Davis Hansen said this week that how we view GWB is going to be much like Truman was. he left office with a 24% approval rating but historians now see him better than they saw him at the time.
That is what Ive thought of GW for some time now. It is certainly a mixed bag.

My husband and I agree with you on this.

I do give him credit for the steps taken in securing the country better after 9/11. He deserves credit for doing the right thing for the country there.
His biggest blunder was the people he surrouned himself with. People like Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and Donald Rumsfeld were his biggest blunders.
Harriet Miers?? That was a horrible blunder. I mean the man didn't even check with his own party before submitting a nominee for the SCOTUS. That seems unimaginable.
The surveillance laws enacted under the Bush administration are an attack on every American's consitutional rights. My phone calls from my friend in Ecuador can be tapped for no reason at all. No names on terror lists, no suspicions just because. I keep a mini copy of the Constitution on my desk and the last time I checked, the 4th amendment was a part of that. Infringing on that is treasonous!
I could go on and on about the blunders of the Bush administration and none of them have to do with the liberal news media.

Looks like we agree. its a mixed bag....
Rummy was a colossal mistake.
and harriet myers.... hmmm.... you know what i think about her? I think GWB learned something from the Bork deal and put her up to get knocked down.
I think that made it much more easy to get Alito thru.
but i do agree that GWB will not go down as a great president. I do believe eventually on average, he will not be seen as a complete failure.

So ultimately was the issue the use of the name or that he violated some code by campaigning in uniform? I do know that incumbent Presidents cannot use the official seal while campaigning and that there are rules of conduct when in uniform as was mentioned earlier.

stew, this wouldnt have even been an issue had he not used the name.
but he did so now the ACLU has filed complaints and an investagation has begun.
everyone who is involved in bringing the complaint has stated they did it because he used the name, but the charge is he was campaigning in uniform.
so its all twisted up.
But as Renda points out, there really isnt much of an issue here except it will certainly make other people cautious about attacking Obama for fear of legal retaliation.
