I heard someone say in teaching recently that being late is rebellion. And we all know what rebellion is.....

That's rediculous...if anything it's just laziness, tiredness (having more than one service a day) disorganized....too busy or maybe even the whole church spending longer than they should in prayer before the service

someone already touched on it, but planning to be on time usually runs you late. We should plan to be early.

I've read before that being late is a sign of disinterest. One would rather be doing something else, but they feel obligated to attend.

but Prax,
that would leave the God-card unplayed!
that may cause people to see each one of us making our own decisions rather than rebelling against or ignoring someone else's rule.
....talk about your slippery slopes.....what next?
People working out their own salvation with fear and trembling?

My problem with the lateness thing is this: We start at 6. The musicians and praise team come early for practice and several of us come early for prayer. Often at the end of practice they pray too. Well I might be wrong but in the course of consistantly starting late the folks that don't come early for prayer or practice come late and not just as late as we start but even AFTER we start late.
That is why I initially said it's a discipline issue. Being on time is something you practice over and over and over. Same with prayer...daily prayer is discipline.

I used to be a latebug, but have grown up somewhat in that department. (not to say I'm never late) But I have learned the value of being on time. Also, getting an early start is important. You never know what is going to hold you up - traffic, getting lost, a hair demon could jump on your head...you just never know.
But I it does annoy me greatly when someone arrives super early.
People drop their kids off half an hour early for piano lessons and expect me to keep them entertained until it is time for their lesson. Grrrrrrr...
Drives me nuts.
okay...that's all

If you show up 15-30 minutes late at our church....you miss most of the praise and worship because we are not going to wait on your selfish rear to get there...we start a 5 minute countdown, at 10:55 a.m., and we start on time no matter who isn't there...
You may ask, "How is being late selfish?" It is selfish because when there is an agreed upon start time, and you are not there, it means that you feel your time is more important than the time that others have put in to get there on time just to wait on you....
I also think that if you are being paid by the hour, or if you are on salary that dictates a certain work schedule, and you are not there yet get paid as though you were...that is stealing....15 minutes a day means you got paid for 1 hour 15 minutes that you weren't there for on a 5 work day schedule....late 30 minutes a day means you stole 2 1/2 hours on a 5 work day scheduele....stealing is a selfish act as well.
