Re: How Do You Know if God is Speaking to You?

Jhn 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

How do we know His Voice? I don't know... Jesus didn't explain how we would know His Voice, but that we WOULD know His Voice. If we aren't readily able to discern the Voice of the Lord, does this not indicate that we aren't living the life of a sheep? Could this be an indication that we aren't living as close to the Lord as we need to be?

Paul failed to recognize the Lord's Voice on the road to Damascus. He answered the Voice "Who are you, Lord". He wasn't quite sure of who the Lord was. This is because Paul did not know the Lord at that point. But, later, we see no hesitancy on Paul's part when God spoke to him. Thats because, after He met the Lord, Paul submitted to the Lord and became a sheep in the Masters fold.

Knowing God's voice -- is that a skill that one can improve with practice? It would seem so. But then, one will never really know if they have gotten to the place where they can fully trust their discernment. Some may say they have. Many will claim to know if some particular message is genuine or not, and will not admit to any uncertainty at all. Some of those may be right, but some are definitely (IMO) wrong.

Re: How Do You Know if God is Speaking to You?

I think there are times when we know God is speaking to us. Or maybe I should say we are quite sure. But, some people think God is not speaking to other people unless it matches what they think God should be saying!

If prayer is truly a two-way conversation between an individual and God, shouldn't everyone agree on everything?

I think a lot of things are based on perspective.

yes , or there are less people having true two way conversations with God than will admitt.

Re: How Do You Know if God is Speaking to You?

We can't agree on everything, even if God is speaking to us because as humans, we only see parts of the whole picture.

Re: How Do You Know if God is Speaking to You?

When the Lord speaks to me, I just "know it" on the inside.

Many times, I have ignored His voice and did things my own way, admitting later to Him my foolishness.

I try to make sure that when ever I think the Lord is speaking to me that "His Voice" matches with "His Word".
