I certainly would not confine it to any one party, I'm just saying that it is still a factor to a segment of our society. The issue of whether a Black candidate would have won the candidacy of the GOP is still hypothetical, so I guess we'll know the answer to that someday.
I believe if Colan Powell would have run for President, he would at least would have won the Republican nomination. In fact, I think he would have beat Clinton!

I would have voted for him in a heartbeat!

I do believe that that could have been a distinct possibility. It is hypothetical but I do believe that that could have happened. Personally, speaking purely as a Black man, I would have vastly preferred that he would have been the first Black nominee of a major party.

...and I do honestly think that there are many whites who do not see themselves as identifying with him. We have come a long way, as evidenced by the fact that it is a non-issue to Renda, unfortunately not everybody feels that way. I do think that there still is a segment who would rather not have a Black pastor, President, or in many other positions.
Once again, the fact that he won the nomination of a major party shows the progress in that area, but it would be naive to think that that translates to every sector in our society.
