Motive counts for a lot.
Was involved in a seminar recently where the pastor spent $75,000, much of it to buy special effect lights and smoke machine.
The main motive seemed to have been to impress fellow ministers with how progressive he was.

There is scripture for instruments.
3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

House to house, with a meal or without? On the side of the road, in the mountains, down in the valleys, etc.?

Unfortunately there was no electricity back then for the lighting and fog machines. *grin*

God has His own light shows and fog machines. 
Much more affective to me.
I love some thunder and lightning storms. Could do without the fog when driving though.

It depends on the main focus. Is the main focus on just getting a crowd or on Jesus? Is it on the lights and fog or on the Creator of Light?
We use fog machines, follow spots, black lights, and colored lights in our dramas.
We have seen many in our community touched by our dramas. Many who would never feel the presents of the Holy Ghost if not for our dramas. We even had a family start coming to church and receive the Holy Ghost because of our dramas.
We use a bubble machine for our children's service. We even hit big beach balls in the sanctuary. 
We have many children that have heard the gospel and felt the presents of the Holy Ghost because of our children's services. We have Holy Ghost filled children that attend our church who's parents don't because of our children's services. We have children in our community that will beg their parents to miss their regular Sunday School to come to our Super Sunday service.
Can these things be misused? Sure they can. But they can also be used to reach souls.
(And my pastor is even WPF)
