LOL!
If I am loyal to a company, it is the same company the Apostles were loyal to.
Act 4:23 ¶ And being let go, they went to
their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
I have a certain appreciation for the UPC, but am far from what would be called a "Company Man" in that context. I have been independent more years of my pastorate than I have been UPC.
I am loyal to the Church and the ministry. I am not the least bit ashamed of that, and the only reward I care much about is pleasing the Lord.
Let me share something very sincerely and candidly with you, Daniel.
I am very much put off by anyone whose comunication has a consistent undertone of criticism of the church and the ministry.
God loves the church. God loves the men He calls, just like He loves the saints.
Consider Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Of the three, which one was least signifigant, anf got the least attention from the Lord?
Isaac, without a doubt.
The Lord said, "Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated."
Isaac, on the other hand, loved Esau.
God seems to be more pleased with those who love what He loves.
I have an idea that you are a pleasant and even mild-mannered person in real life.
But somewhere you have obviously joined yourself with people who have infected you with this spirit of constantly picking at and criticizing what God loves.
I am not stupid. I know there are unscrupulous men in the ministry. I know there are saints who are devils in disguise, too, but you don't see me on here blowing the whistle on them constantly.
Would you like to know why?
Because I love them. I am in love with Jesus and I am in love with His church, warts and all.
Have I been mistreated by saints? You bet.
Have I been done wrong by preachers? You better believe it.
But I read in an old Book one time about a man who was called "a man after God's own heart."
When the king who had hunted him and harassed him like a dog finally was slain, his reaction was not to gloat and exult in justice finally being done--he wailed, "Tell it not in Gath! Publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon!"
This atitude and spirit pleased God.
If you really trust the Lord, and if you really do believe he will do right, it relieves you of the idea that you have to uncover all the dirt and fix all the injustices perpetrated by the unscrupulous.
God has ways of bringing down things and people who displease Him. Never doubt it.
But you do harm to your own spirit when you take upon yourself the task of judging what God gave to the Church.
I defend what I defend because I love what He loves, Daniel. And I want to be pleasing to Him.
Show me one single critic in the Bible who was blessed. Good luck.
I hope this has explained somewhat my motivation.
