Teaching a series, they contended meant the pastor was not allowing the Spirit to direct the services as the pastor had ALREADY PLANNED what the topic was about.

I have heard of people leaving a church because someone sat in their pew, or someone did not speak to them.

One even left a church because he had to walk 3 blocks from where he had to park his car.

Someone left the church here because of the SCREEN whereupon the words of the songs and Powerpoint are displayed.

Have you heard of any other dumb reasons why people leave a church??

Blessings

Walking 3 blocks can be legit if they have health issues.

You mean you would actually apply the board of education to the seat of knowledge? In today's world that would be considered child abuse.

Brother, I'd spank them in front of the CPS, Chief of Police, Prosecuting Attorney, Judge, and Warden of the jail they'd send me to if one my kids needed it.

Re: Dumb Reasons People Leave a Church

When Stan Mitchell was assistant pastor at Christ Church, he was preaching a series on a scripture and titled it "The Kiss".

After two straight months of teaching on that scripture from every possible angle, I told my wife if he preached on that scripture one more time, I would throw up!

Lo and behold, the next Sunday he preached on it again from yet another angle. About five minutes into his sermon I told the wife to grab the kids because we were leaving church early!

That actually began our journey to 1st UPC for awhile!

I remember one time when my son (now 14) was about 5 he said if I spanked him he would call the police... Well I put his little bottom in the car and drove to the police station and took him inside, I asked to see an officer and in front of my son, I asked him "sir if I spank my son will you put me in jail?"

and after this response I wanted to throw my arms around him and hug him.. he said.....

" Ma'am, if you spank him at home, then we don't have to do it here"....

He has never forgotten it!

Thank God you ran into an officer with some wisdom!

We have always taught our children to behave in service, we never brought snacks, but sometimes books. We have always thought that children should be in service and not just shuffled off to "children's church", even if they only stayed in the service once or twice a month, or only for the worship part, in order to learn proper behavior and an appreciation for the service.
What happens when these kids turn 12 and have never learned what its like to be in service? They think it's boring and doesn't pertain to them, and chances are they will not stay in church.
I do feel though that they need to act appropriately ,and if not, they can get a little fellowship with the wooden spoon...
When my husband was in graduate school, he was always able to take our children to class if necessary (they were 6-9 and 10-13), the professors always complemented on how well behaved they were, I think this started by the behavior they learned in church.
