And is the second part of your question whether God could be evil for telling the Israelites to kill all the people, even the babies, in Jericho or in another setting?

Huh. Hadn't thought of that.
Yes, of course that is the real reason for this little exercise. More specifically, the plagues of Egypt. If anyone other than God had killed children (or anyone else) for the specific purpose of becoming famous and proving he was powerful, it would be evil. In other words, if we fill in the blank in that story with "Timmy" or "Mary" or etc., it would be evil. If we fill it in with "God", then the answer has to be not evil.
Just sayin'.

Very good questions, all. But we're getting side tracked.
What I would really like to know, from this little exercise, is this: if all the facts of a case are available to us except for the identity of the one doing the action, can we say whether the action was evil (a sin, if you prefer) or not?
Maybe side-tracked a little, but they're unavoidable elements in the discussion if it's going to be covered completely.
It's evil to kill, especially in that manner. I'm not sure how we can ever get around that.
So are you going to enlighten us as to your point or are you just trying to get someone to say it would be better if they were dead?
Nah, that wasn't my main point. The question of whether any human truly deserves to die, or if the world would be better off without them, is too hard for me. Mary zeroed in on my main point (my trap! lol) and I owned up, a few posts ago:
