I don't know, it's sort of hard to explain having just left. I do feel like leaving was a deliverance for me. And my own UPC church and UPC district had this spirit about it, a kind of superfiscial, shallow spirit that I couldn't stand. I remember the offerings being terrible; how people were hit up for money, how if a church didn't give enough to SFC the ministers would gossip about it. Some of the offerings at the youth rallies were such a joke the reverance was completely taken out of the act of giving. The ministry was proud and pompous. The clothing was flashy and outlandish (amoung the youth and ministry)... pink shirts on men, long suit jackets on men, splits up the thigh in girls skirt, girls with the high up boots- oh AND FISH NET STOCKINGS... It was funny too, the guys were wearing the pink shirts, and the girls were all loud and masculine and half of them (I'm speaking figuratively in half of course) wanted to preach! It was as if the gender roles were confused! Then there was Wayne Francis and his foolishness at Youth Congress... And then there was Youth Congress all together! And then the music in church started going charismatic and we stopped using instruments and started using Hillsong sountracks and we sang along with the CD! AHHHH!!! There was the crazy dating games all the youth played and people that everytime you turned was dating someone different. There was just all of this junk--- it is good to be out!
GOD BLESS!

Umm... ok.
Thanks for the explanation, first of all.
I must say some of the stuff you mentioned actually sounds fairly trivial to me (pink shirts, long jackets, "charismatic" music soundtracks ?) . But if you're in a spiritual place now where you can thrive, that's really the most important thing.
Maybe it goes without saying, but I'll just say anyway... anyplace that you make your spiritual home, there will be "issues" (some are just more visible than others), and you cant run away every time you see stuff you don't like. I simply say this because I've seen people who've left for what they thought was going to be a "better" or "more liberating" environment, but after making a left turn somewhere along the line, some of them are not even serving the Lord any more. If a person's being spiritually fed, the core doctrines are solidly preached/taught, and souls are being won, that's the main thing.
Anyway, all the best to you. Take care.
