Many of us have our roots in the UPC and still have many friends and family members that are a part of it so it is still important to us. Not to mention I have hope that it will progress to a point where it will get beyond the extra biblical legalism and truly bring Jesus Name Baptism to the world and the rest of Christendom.
It's hard for me to understand things myself... like why people who left years ago are still so preoccupied with what the UPC does? Why haven't they moved on to 'truly bring Jesus Name Baptism to the world and the rest of Christiendom'?
I know people personally who left years ago and are doing their own thing for the Kingdom. They seldom talk about the UPCI and what the UPCI does or doesn't teach... they're just busy doing what they do.
I think it's an honest question myself.
I also don't believe that a person must be a minister to take part in these discussions, especially if they are an actual long time member of the UPCI or a UPCI church.
As far as facial hair... I would say, of all the churches I have been to in my life, only one would have still preached against men having facial hair. It was a non issue in most of the churches I have been to. And never taught against. It's kind of over in my neck of the woods.

Just a couple of comments....
1) I'm fairly certain that facial hair in a sermon had nothing to do with LY being asked to leave his post.
2) As much I love LY and his wife, I think if everyone associated with the situation was completely honest with themselves, they would admit that if he hadn't be so "in your face" with the teaching that was the cause, he would not have been asked to leave. His boss was (is) very tolerant - until direct disobedience to a request takes place.
He was a GREAT teacher on just every day life and living for God - being a true Christian, family relationships, etc. I was very sorry to see him go.
BTW - is your avatar a picture of yourself?

The real question is do YOU have facial hair????
My wife agrees with you by the way. The UPC is just a distant part of her past to her. She doesn't understand why I still associate with UPC folks, forums, etc like I do. She has lots of UPC relatives and some friends but getting her to visit a UPC church is like pulling teeth. She had some bad experiences with people who didn't know her from Adam judging her by her looks and trying to drag her to altars in the first few years after we left back in the early 80's. I, of course, fit in just fine in any old time Pentecostal meeting. The most I have to do is pull of my wedding ring and the one other ring I wear and I look like a typical fat Pentecostal preacher!
I am sorry if it bothers you I am still interested in the UPC and what it does but that is the way it is. I am not going away!

Yeah that nose ring really does separate the goats from the sheep!

I can almost always tell when certain subjects will bring SweetPea out of hiding. She seems to remain sweet in spite of any negativity ... and that's a point in her favor.
