Re: LADIES please take my Holiness Test Thanks

I wasn't oppressed and depressed when I was in UPC and holding to the standards that they set. I'm also not oppressed or depressed now! I'm pretty much a happy person, no matter the setting. I just am at a point now that I don't have to follow those rules anymore, because I'm not a part of it. However, to say that I feel "liberated" now - I guess I really never felt like I was in bondage. I was just in submission.

Hope that makes sense. I know what I'm TRYING to say. LOL!

This could have been written by me and expresses my feelings exactly.

Re: LADIES please take my Holiness Test Thanks

I've been searching today for this song. I finally looked here for it.
This song ministered to me many years ago and still does.
I heard it live in Dallas,TX in the 80's Dan Dean sung it. The McGruders and Bro. & Sis Ewing at Reunion Arena. Evening of Pentecost was the concert name if my memory serves me correctly.

http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com...oose+christian

Verse 1: I met a man the other day
He looked and me and said
I've seen your kind so many times before
He said "you can't do this, you can't do that"
Your bound by rules and restrictions,
What a dreary life you Christians must observe.(go right to VERSE 2)

Verse 2: Well, I looked him in the eye and I said "YOU'RE WRONG!"
"I can do anything that turns me on, I can smoke 'till my eyes turn red and my face turns blue."
"I can chew and dip,I can snort and cuss. I can party and drink until the sun comes up, but there's better things in life I'd rather do." (You see ....CHORUS)

I choose to be a christian
I choose to be like him
Ain't noboby makin' me do it (The last time through they said "Ain't nobody holdin' a gun to my head)
This is how I want to live
You decide for you and I'll decide for me
the choice is mine this what I choose to be.

Verse 3: Well I must admit that from time to time, the thought of heaven keeps me towing the line.
But the Lord and his comming, sound too good to be true.
Oh, but if this was all just a fairy tale and there was no heaven and there was no hell... I'd still be happy, living like I do. (Cause you see....REPEAT CHORUS then BRIDGE)

Bridge: So don't look at me in sympathy.
And think that I've been cheated, by not doing all those things, that you call fun!
Oh, sometime when you're gettin' down, on the darker side of town
This choice I've made will be lifting me out of here! (REPEAT CHORUS then END)

I would have to say, it seems to me that the KEEPERS of the standards are the ones who do the most finger-pointing: "Thou art not holy unless...blah, blah, blah" ... not the other way around.

In other words, I seldom see people telling you to take your skirts off and wear jeans... or telling you to cut your hair ... or telling you to wear shorter sleeves... or telling you to put on makeup.

BUT...

I very OFTEN SEE brothers/sisters telling NON-KEEPERS of the standards that "they have fallen from full truth... they have started down that slippery slope... they are HELLBOUND etc. etc.

I don't care how my brother/sister dresses. (It's not my business.) I just wish the feeling was mutual.
