I've seen many questions on Twitter as to why in the world the Pros would have a wit that turns out favorable to GZ. I wondered this myself. It's like they're throwing the game.

I found the answer....

FL has this law where if the Pros does not include exculpatory evidence that is favorable to the accused, then the Defense (during closing arguments) are able to tell the Jury that the Pros hid evidence that was favorable to their client...and that kind of accusation is worse on the Pros than them bringing a wit that could be favorable to the Defense and being able to pick away at their testimony, hoping to be able to find something impeachable or that would cause the wit to appear biased.

Something else that was puzzling to me...that I don't yet have an answer for (perhaps it's the exculpatory rule mentioned above)...the Pros played the GZ re-enactment video. You had GZ effectively on the stand for 20 or so minutes giving his account. The Jury was able to hear GZ in his own words about the case, and the Pros couldn't cross examine him.

GZ doesn't need to take the stand now. His re-enactment video was all he needed to have the Jury hear.

That was a huge win for the Defense, IMO.

True, however, their own eyewitness said he believed that it was GZ, so the only chance the Pros had was to bring a question. Since the court would allow the pros "experts" that said it was TM, they at least wanted to try to create a question as to who was yelling. You will hear the Pros declare that no one could absolutely say that it was GZ, so it could be TM, since his own family will declare that it is TM.

I don't think it will resonate with the jury but what else to they have? The Pros must have been forced to prosecute, such a weak case.

Not to mention that O'Mara told Sharpton that he has a "lot of arrows in his quiver", although, he hopes he doesn't have to use them.

One strong negative for TM's side, is that TM's father went to the Sanford police department, viewed the 911 call and said he couldn't say that was his son's voice. Later, after all the hoopla, he changes his mind.

I think the state knew they did not have a case and that's why they are not tring to hard..I think they are only doing this to appease TM family.. I still don't see how the state come up with 2nd degree murder..

Agree! He doesn't have any reason to take the stand now, and I don't think he should. If I was his lawyer, I certainly would keep him off the stand.

I went back, last night, and listened to the opening statements since I didn't hear them in full. The Prosecution's guy needs to audition for "As the Stomach Turns". What a Drama Queen. I was insulted by his fake caring. A couple of times I thought he might be on the edge of pulling out his hankie. What a dork.
