Just like the "church," this forum is not different from the world. Attacking and devouring one another. All in the name of defending not the faith but your particular brand of "religion."

Too bad.

This happens on every forum I've been part of. Just don't be part of that. It's a choice.

I for one am not a fan of the magizne from which this little story came from. And from the quote above, I do not know where anybody gets the "right" to ask that kind of question. If the honorarium is approved by those who are set in office to handle such things, then all is well. It is sure not the right of a forum like this to discuss such things, to me this is just totally rude to even think of asking. I will never and never do discuss how much someone is paid, myself or others.

Very true from what I have seen.

I am guessing you are a preacher? LOL!!!

Open disclosure seems to be a real problem for some preachers.

I assume you would get angry then if I started talking about the little unofficial club atmosphere were many pastors invite their pastor friends to come preach for them a couple of times a year and then the favor is returned?

I am sure much of the time it is for pure reasons but I also believe that it is a convenent way to help boost each other's income as your friend's church is going to pay you an hororium when you visit to preach and our church will do the same for him when he comes to preach for you. It doesn't take but a half dozen of these speaking engagements to decent size churches to add thousands of dollars to ones annual income.

I have known preachers who put more in the offering during Camp Week than they received.

I have to agree with The Closer. I think the post Sam offered was in poor taste. Not every large Pastor is a money grabber and after filthy lucre!

When it becomes all about the money, the preacher has lost his focus and is in danger of judgment! I have no problem with receiving a generous offering, but making a list of demands before you'll come preach is making oneself a shipwreck. Shame shame shame!!!!!!!!!

JMHO!!!!!

In Sam's defense, I think that this is a legitimate question in the context of this thread. The answer, if honestly given, would highlight the absurdity of the fees required by the big name charismatic preachers, who are often less capable than the UPC preachers featured at campmeetings.

I would suggest, without inside information, that the honorarium for a night speaker at a large UPC campmeeting is in the $500 - $1000 per night range. A reasonable remuneration for the time required to prepare, travel, and preach at such an event. (The per night amount is probably reduced if the event involves several services)

I'm sure that there are some here that could give a much more accurate range for the honorariums at campmeetings.

You would probably find it closer to the $350 per night range, with $500 per night probably being very generous, and an amount above what most districts pay.

Very interesting, and certainly not exorbitant by today's standards.

AFF's resident campmeeting speaker has spoken of the hours he spends in preparation for his sermons (20+/- if memory serves me right), and then each service requires at least one day on site. An experienced journeyman working in industry can expect to make $35 per hour. At that rate, it would be hard to consider even $500 as overly generous.

I've never met a preacher who was in it for the money. Apparently the people on this forum meet them every day, but I haven't met one yet.
