What does make no sound mean? Total silence? No clicking, no starter turning over?

No clicking. No turn over. This has been an issue since before the new battery.

I didn’t tighten the negative cable on grandma’s car. It’s working fine now. AC working great. Something was loose under the glove compartment.

Ok, so the Merc was doing something as I approached a red light. It was in OD. I will describe it as what a car does when you accelerate and the gear is in N.When I came to a stop I put it in D.
Transmission?
I don’t want to put any $ into the car. Getting it on the road cost what, if not more than it’s worth.

Sounds like you have either really dirty tranny oil or no tranny oil.
