Re: Holiness or Hell thread
And is the sermon on the Mount, holiness?
Would it be Hell if we refuse to lend? If we refuse to go the second mile? If we lay up treasures on Earth? If we dont pray for our enemy?
What about meekness? If one walks in arrogance will they make Heaven their home? As Amanah mentioned earlier what about self defence?
Why do discussions of outward holiness become very specific, but heart purity is left very general?

I think Matthew 5 and Galatians 5 are foundational to holiness.

Re: Holiness or Hell thread
Holiness is separation to God. That means doing things His Way, by the Book, led by the Spirit, in everything. Period.

Make sure you give us a brief review, what you thought about it. (I haven't read it, BTW.)

Holiness is obeying the bible out of love for God and my fellow human beings

So, then, the phrase "God is love" and "God is holy" are inter-connected, convergent streams of the nature and being of God? I like it!

Is there a difference on how we deal with the above between the OT and NT?
|
The answer, I think, lies somewhere in "You have heard it said...but I say unto you..."
The "you have heard it said" would be OT, and the "but I say unto you..." would be NT, with Christ as the pivot point from the one to the other.
