How do you know?
He said they were in "divers"(various) places.
This specifies particular earthquake regions around the globe. 
There is no secondary meaning.
It looks like you want to ignore this specificity and just show the aftermath.
Kinda like calling Ft. Hood "work place violence".

No, you are ignoring the literal meaning. Jesus wasn't talking about Richter scale readings. He was speaking about earthquakes that those He was speaking to would witness.
