A bit misleading, since they're not proposing to leave people with nothing. They want to privatize Social Security, which isn't a bad idea. And you're right, SS is technically bankrupt. All the money has been spent and is gone. The letters I get from SS claiming an amount I'll get upon retirement are false.
What's better, lying to people by keeping SS open but empty; or trying to find a solution which will actually help people when they retire?
IMO they should do away with SS altogether and if people screw around and don't put money away for retirement, it's their loss. People need to have personal accountability. Stop the SS tax, stop the SS payouts and leave it to the people to save for the future. Or not save and suffer later. Their choice.

Re: ESPN's Stephen A. Smith: Vote GOP
well, as they are just printing money willynilly now, i'd think they could print some SS money too--the problem is ZIRP, i guess. As for privatizing, yikes, that hasn't worked out very well in any other municipal function, i don't think. The problem with saving on one's own in a fiat world, combined with ZIRP, are that you save $1 to get a penny

Re: ESPN's Stephen A. Smith: Vote GOP
The reason Dems don't want to privatize SS or give people control over their SS money, is they won't have a honeypot to steal from to finance their other pet initiatives. Any changes made to SS takes away their ability to take money from it.

ah, then you merely need to address the Fiat/Zirp conundrum; which is actually a design, imo.

right. I am sure the good ole boys of the GOP have never touched that money for anything other than SS. You are such a partisan hack.

They may have, I don't know. I do know the Dems regularly did, especially during the Clinton years.
And you keep avoiding the question. Why is that; no answer or just don't want to admit the answer?

You never answered mine. What has the GOP done for the poor white people in the south who vote for them. According to you, rich people vote GOP and poor people vote dem. Even though I know real life instances that dont support this.
