I do think it is tragic that a kid, who given enough time might have turned his life around, will never get that chance... This is hard for me to see as a person because a couple of my own kids went through similar stages and are now productive men... Admittting that if one of them had ever been the ones beating some guys head on the sidewalk and that guys best defense had been with a gun then they would not have gotten that chance...well... it's a wake up call. But being that guy does not make GZ a criminal, let alone a murderer. To say he deserved for TM to attack him because he was doing his Neighborhood Watch job is wrong.

IMO.There is no reason that someone with the lawful right to carry should have to die with their gun still in the holster from a beating... and I believe it could have easily gone the other way. GZ might have been a yahoo... or maybe not but I don't see how it is wrong that he was acquitted, all evidence suggested a straightforward self-defense scenario. Nothing contradicted that. The jury had to find in favor of the defense. Had they done otherwise, it would have been an incredible miscarriage of justice. "Beyond a reasonable doubt" means something in our system of justice. And if ever reasonable doubt existed, it was in this case.

How you can see that as GZ getting away with murder is beyond me Barb.... and BTW, I like you too.

Great post. GZ had a right to carry and was being beaten. TM did have a weapon... His fists/hands and the cement.

In my opinion, this is a case of wanna be thug meets wanna be cop gone bad. I think GZ was unethical but legal when he stepped out to question TM. TM went from innocent to breaking the law when he assaulted GZ. GZ was legally defending his life. GZ was unethical in his approach towards Martin but was certainly with in his legal rights to defend himself. Regardless of Al Sharptons allegations, race had nothing to do with this.

Trayvon's mom had kicked him out of the house because of his activities prior to all of this happening.

The defense attorney said it best in his press conference. Something to the effect that yes, it is a tragedy. No mother should ever have to bury her child - regardless of their age. But it happens. To me, because of the circumstances, this is no more tragic than my friend losing her 17 year old daughter to a drunk driver.

Your children will always be "children" in your eyes - but the fact of the matter is that TM had made some very poor choices in life that led to him being in this situation. And he was not some innocent 12 year old child - nor was he a naive 17 year old teenager. He was involved in some pretty bad stuff. He was a 17 year old young man who knew he was headed down the wrong path and even acknowledged that in some of his social media and text messages.

My personal opinion, if you didn't follow each and every step of the trial and listen to ALL the evidence presented (as well as that evidence that was not allowed by the judge), you really can not make an informed comment regarding whether George Zimmerman was innocent or guilty. You are making your comments based solely upon what the media has fed you regarding TM and GZ. And folks, the media fed us a bunch of garbage!

Barb, did you watch the trial or read any police reports? Because it was proven in court, by witness testimony, police reports and forensic evidence that GZ was defending his life. Self defense is justified in this case. Also, GZ did NOT watch TM die... I'm not sure where that came from. And he did show remorse. So,...???
