Therein is the exact meaning. If we DO the will of God in all things we will be perfect in doing his will.
I completely agree with you in that we are expected to "Be ye perfect, as your Father in Heaven is perfect."

The Greek text reads "you be perfect" The word esesthe is a future tense verb, demanding the translation “you will be perfect.” Those who demonstrate love in the manner attributed to the Father will become perfect—complete or mature.

Matthew 5:48
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
48 ye shall therefore be perfect, as your Father who [is] in the heavens is perfect.

Again, I would point to the meaning of the word "perfect."

If I misunderstood you, forgive me; but here's the statement you made:

Quote:
Im afraid Yeshua takes it more seriously than this. He actually EXPECTS his people to be perfect.
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matt. 5:48
From this, and again if I'm wrong correct me, I assume you mean the literal meaning of "perfect." Meaning flawless, entirely without fault, etc.

However, the Greek word used in the scriptures I gave, including Matt 5:48 means "fully developed." Being "fully developed" is different than being flawless. We should be fully developed as Christians, but until we are rid of this flesh, we will never be flawless.

And this meaning, "fully developed," is what is used in Colossians 4:12:

Quote:
Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect [fully developed] and complete in all the will of God. Colossians 4:12
