Re: Are you an Apostolic?

Independent free holiness here. Why is number five considered unbiblical?

Tongues as evidence isn't in there.

What about:

Acts 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

What does the Bible say was the specific evidence that convinced the Jews that the gentiles had received the Holy Ghost?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Do you believe in the above statements? Yes or No?
Why not add a 7th essential doctrine?
7. That Jesus Christ will return bodily to judge the quick and the dead.

Yes.

Although, I do have an issue with #5, in the sense that I have known people who speak in tongues like a "Chinese laundryman" who never evidence any fruit of the spirit in their lives.

And I know people who have never once spoke in another language, who evidence great fruit of the spirit in their life.

I believe that we should be looking for the fruit of the spirit in a believer's life, more than just hearing them speak in an unknown language.

And I have heard devilish tongues too, tongues that try to imitate the "speaking in tongues", but bring no evidence of fruit in that person's life, only works of the flesh.

In all reality, we must be "fruit inspectors", going beyond looking at just the initial evidence of the tongues, instead... looking for the evidence of the spirit working in a believer's life with the fruits of the spirit being evidenced in all they do.

Other than that, I agree wholeheartedly with the above statements.

Funny. I can't find that phrase anywhere and yet it repeated so often that I have heard people ADD it to the end of certain versus thinking "it must be there!".

Perhaps we do need an officially sanctioned apostolic Bible in order to fix these glaring errors.

Where does it say that it isn't the initial evidence?

The bible does not state that tongues IS the initial evidence.
