Re: Upc stance on Men's "shorts"

Shaggy is just looking for someone that indulges more than he does... cutting the grass in his beach thong type shorts.

It's beyond hard... it's ridiculous! Yet plenty of people are still completely roped in. My poor husband in an effort to please God wore long pants and long sleeves in a 110 degree warehouse summer after summer. Now the men in our household wear modest (no clinging, knee length) shorts in summer, board shorts for the water, etc.

I don't wear shorts of any length unless I'm swimming. I swim in a pair of long nylon gym shorts over a tank style one piece suit. No boobs, butt or thigh showing but no soaking wet jean skirt to drown me either. Otherwise the only time skirts below the knees don't work for me is when I'm working with hogs or in briars then I wear Carhart's coveralls.

I think all clothing choices should be modest AND suitable for the activity. So there are some career choices that might be out... like say... pole dancing... But otherwise apostolic women and men should be able to live life without clothes becoming a central issue of who we are.

Re: Upc stance on Men's "shorts"

I am probably not one to ask since I could care less about the cultural church standards in general. I wear shorts to the knee...have for years. I used to only wear pants in an effort to conform to the church standard, but when I really thought about it, I decided the standard was not logical and lacked a shred of common sense.

My family does not toe the line on many sacred cow standards, and I have not raised either of my children with that expectation. In my opiion, over the years, the discussions and arguments on both sides of the standards fence have done more to distract people of God then help promote the gospel.

Nothing wrong with modest knee length shorts. No difference than a lady with a skirt below the knee. Modesty is what counts. I am discreet about when and where I wear them due to what others might think, but I think there will come a day when it's a non issue.

Well I think you answered the original question in this thread in your discretion not to wear them places where you might invoke judgement.

This is what continues to keep the standards in the UPC IMO.

I guess you guys never go swimming.
If you do, do you swim in your three piece suite?
