Re: What Scripture Had The Most Profound Effect On

The verses in my signature line, among others.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27 KJV

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6:8 KJV

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2 KJV

Re: What Scripture Had The Most Profound Effect On

When I read a more fair translation of Hebrews 13:17(?) where it says to obey them that have the rule over you and it explained that "obey" meant "be persuaded". It opened my eyes to a lot. We are not expected to just shut up and obey anyone just bc they have a title and are "over us". That person has the responsibility to persuade me to obey him. This opened a can of worms that I still wrestle with. I hate the power hungry folks at the top of most churches who scream "rebellious" whenever I or someone like me disagrees with them or brings a different scriptural point of view to them.

Re: What Scripture Had The Most Profound Effect On

It is our premises in reading this story that are incorrect, not its translation. We fatally assume that God desires to display His might pointlessly and capriciously, revealing what we would do. God wanted a witness to the Egyptians, who worshipped Pharoah, and suffered for that, not because of our twisted motives that we place on Him. It is easy to forget that Pharoah considered himself equal to God, with his people's blessing, and even worship.

Amen. God can make blind servants from rocks. Run (spiritually) from those who are afraid...of dissent, or anything else for that matter. Recognize that if your truthful witness will bring howls from them, then your mission is to go back next...church day, and double down. With love. Good on ya.
