Actually it's when Unregistered posts 'you' inside of [] without the single quotes that Unregistered appears.....

We must be ambassadors of another land, of another culture, of another way of living... shining and impacting those around us to be the ones that see the need for change. That don't need us to be more like them, they need us to be more like Jesus....

Re: Be In the World
The Scripture 'in the world but not of the world.' doesn't actually exist.
This is its source:
Joh 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
Joh 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

Re: Be In the World
Hmm, 17:11
New Living Translation (©2007)
Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.
The intent seems pretty clear?
17:18
New Living Translation (©2007)
Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world.
Tho I agree, "In the world, not of the world" is more of a synopsis.

Re: Be In the World
I've often had this verse pointed at me to 'prove' that I should separate myself from secular activities, but I've never agreed for several reasons:
1. Jesus told us that he was sending us out as sheep among wolves.
2. We are likened to salt. Salt is very rarely found by itself. It almost always is mixed into its environment, unique, yet mixed in with everything else.
In the world but not of the world . . . literally

Re: Be In the World
It means, be in the World but not of the world. You should be of Christ. Of course you are in the World - is it possible not to be in the world? That's where we all live! But don't be of it. Don't be like the World and don't operate like them.
Someone said it before, but I take it as a literal word-for-word meaning scripture as well.

Not trying to be contentious, but I've noticed many churches who use this verse of scripture to people, themselves do business just like the world. They allow many things of the world into the church system and do not even bat an eye at it. The church system is a business, handled like a business and has memberships like clubs with dues...only they call it the OT tithes. Then have business meetings. Board members and trustees just like a corporation from the world. I know of one church that has it's own "bank" for people to bring their paychecks to the church and cash them....minus the tithe and offering money.
I know another church who has the ladies, once a month buy food for a pot luck dish, cook or bake it, bring it to church, then they have to buy their own food back and eat the monthy pot luck dinner.
Many churches raise money inside the church. They sell things. One church I went to had little boys and girls go around the church before service with money jars to collect money from people in the congregation. The little boy or little girl who collects the most money becomes little mr and miss valentine king and queen. Sheesh! It always seemed to be the same favorites that won every year. I wonder why?
There's more but I won't go into anymore of it.
