Re: Pet Sins

Is rocking the boat a sin? Stirring the pot? Chainsaw massacring a group of traveling teenagers?

It takes a lot of effort to be healthy, and deny oneself the foods that will eventually hurt you, or even kill you.

Soo... I guess I could say food is my pet sin. I have to work daily to try to keep my body healthy.

Here's what Jesus had to say about what I think are "pet sins"

Luke 21:34 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and [so] that day come upon you unawares.

Definition of Surfeiting:
1: an overabundant supply : excess 2: an intemperate or immoderate indulgence in something (as food or drink) 3: disgust caused by excess
Yeah. I love powdered donuts and sherbet better than a good healthy meal.

But I have learned that there is a difference between "food" and substances.
Food is nourishing, substances are things like soda pop, donuts and sherbet.

Sometimes I add to the week's shopping list: "something chocolatey and bad for me."

Rocking the boat and stirring the pot could possibly be a sin. If one would know willfully that doing so could get someone to turn away from Jesus' truth and salvation, and if one were doing so exactly for that purpose, I believe that could be a sin. I could be wrong though.

How about the massacring? If they really, really deserved it?

What about if this group of teenagers came to your cabin in some sort of weird suicide ritual and just started killing themselves around you?

My downfall is not sweet, but salty... in a desperate moment needing something to "pick me up" I look for anything salty...

I agree, there is a big difference between food and junk!!! Why I don't reach for an orange, instead of chips or pretzels, I don't know, but would be much healthier LOL!
