Re: Are you an OP?

Fortunately, Jesus instructed us how to pray.

Pray to the Father in heaven in Jesus Name.

As anybody on here that follows my posts know I do not believe that trinitarians are polytheistic. I believe the differences in trinitarianism and Oneness doctrine are pretty minor and not a question of salvation.
I do believe that I am beginning to see it the way you do. I don't think trinitarians even know what it means to be trinitarian.

I am a Oneness Pentecostal, baptized in Jesus' name, filled with the Holy Ghost, evidenced with speaking in tongues.

I was raised Catholic.

My Mom and I were invited to a CoG when I was about 11, and God filled me with the Holy Ghost, and I spoke in tongues.

I was invited to church by a street preacher when I was 15, and was baptized in Jesus name by Pastor Joel Velie at the Pentecostal Lighthouse in Melbourne Florida.

When I was 27 I was invited to Attend Bible Truth Church in Melbourne Florida, and Pastor P.T. McClure preached on the Oneness of God and I saw it. That Church has now become Promiseland Church, and I still visit it. http://promiseland.org/about/

More often these days I attend the First Pentecostal Church of Palm Bay, Pastored by Bro David Myers http://www.fpcpalmbay.com/welcome.html

Re: Are you an OP?

I'm obviously missing something here;

what is the difference between being OP, and being Oneness and Pentecostal?

You would have to ask ones definition of "OP". Around here its like asking what flavor Skittle you like.

Re: Are you an OP?

All you who voted "NO" need to be banned! And all you who voted "I don't call myself an OP" need to grow a backbone

That is all!

Re: Are you an OP?

I believe God is One not Three and that He was incarnate as the man Jesus Christ

I believe the baptism of the Spirit, the experience of Pentecost, is still available for today.

that makes me Oneness Pentecostal

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Heres my guess. I said I am Oneness and I am Pentecostal rather than Oneness Pentecostal. That is my way of joining myself to the doctrine of Oneness, which I consider is that Jesus is both Father and Son. Also the Pentecostal experience that tongues follows the Holy Ghost baptism.

It was also subtly my way of distancing myself from the standards code which says its a sin for man to wear beards and for women to trim their hair.

I think most Oneness have fallen away from Oneness because of this. They discover they were taught wrong on it. Then they assume they were taught wrong on other things and slowly question so heavily they lose their faith.

and I believe that oneness people very often don't understand what that means either. Both sides are more often saying the same thing than they say opposites. Sometimes (Heaven knows I'm gonna take flak for saying this) I am convinced that SOME oneness people only say they are oneness because they enjoy the notoriety of being "different" or "set apart", when really they are not either one. They say it because it makes them feel special.

So how do I vote on this? I don't know. I don't know that I want to say that I am OP since I am really not anymore. But neither am I what some consider to be trinitarian. I believe what MOST trinitarians believe. Which is the same as what MOST oneness folks believe. (using the example of the egg. Or the example of a person who is both a father to his children, a son to his parents and a husband to his wife). Both groups use those exact same explanations. I've heard it from both!
