Agreed

of that I am absolutly certain. That doesnt mean the NAACP is racist. But I feel very comfortable in saying that a much larger percentage of NAACP members are myopically race focused than Tea Party members.... and thus there are more NAACP racists than there are in the Tea Party.

That guy from Dallas, Tx was dealt with swiftly.

There isn't one incident that I know of or could even find record of where the NAACP endorsed racism, had a large faction within its ranks that had racist views-- nothing that would warrant the NAACP being compared to the Tea Party.

The idea of the NAACP was birthed by three whites in January 1909.

The NAACP was founded on February 12, 1909 by a diverse group composed of Du Bois, Ida B. Wells, Archibald Grimké, Henry Moscowitz, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Garrison Villard, William English Walling (the last son of a former slave-holding family),[9][10] and Florence Kelley, a social reformer and friend of Du Bois. Only one of these Founders was black.

The NAACP is race-focussed-- but not racist.

Never has the NAACP advocated hate.

In fact, the NAACP was one of the organizations that called for that Obama aide to be fired before knowing the facts.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to put the NAACP and the Tea Party in the same category-- their missions are far too different.

Who has been kicked out of the NAACP for being racist?

There was an entire faction to the Tea Party that was racist!

That faction of the Tea Party that was racist and the Black Panthers or Nation of Islam would have more in common.

The NAACP is not racist; never has been since its inception. The NAACP did not have its first black President until 1975!

Anyone that wants to paint the NAACP as racist or even having racist people as a part of their organization is not educated concerning the NAACP.

Are you kidding? Just because the org was started for the advancement of colored people, does not mean there were not racist in that org.

With today's tea party you can point right at the group of people (to include thier first official President) that had to either "change" their views or leave the official tea partry.

From their inception, that element of hate was there and was only dealt with publicly until the light was shone on it.

This would be similar to the Nation of Islam-- only difference here is that these guys are racial separatists, black supremacists through and through.

The NAACP does not have any thing in common with the Nation of Islam or the Tea Party in regards to racist rhetoric or action.

I can point it out clearly in the Tea Party and with the Nation of Islam.

I can't point that out clearly with the NAACP and neither can anyone else.

People can speculate-- but the NAACP has a strong 100 year history of black people and white people united fighting for right and justice.

The NAACP and Tea Party are not good comparisons at all.

That is a far cry from saying that there was never any racism associated with the NAACP. I HATE racism, and how it affects us. Groups of people together magnify both the good and bad of the group. And we know it only takes one to start anything. Is our country better now? Yes, but we still have those that don't want to see anyone different succeed. On all sides. That is what is so sad.

I don't think he is racist, never did.

However, after what happened with Katrina, coupled with his own mother's "refugee" comment, my thoughts were that he did not "care too much" for poor black people.

I know it is not a word, but I viewed him as "class-ist" after Katrina, but not really before that event. I think everyone can agree that it was handled poorly by all people involved.

Since hearing him speak positively (or clearly not negatively) of Obama on more than one occasion and hearing him discuss Katrina has helped to change my view of him to an even more positive light-- in regards to race.

Cindy, you know I respect you a great deal.

If I am wrong, I will admit I am wrong and take this statement back.

Until then, I state that there has NEVER been any racism associated with the NAACP.

The Tea Party and the NAACP are not good comparisons.

Some elements of the Tea Party and the Black Panther Party, YES.

Yes, I do. And I respect you as well.

Most back then knew better than to talk about it in public. Or to keep their mouths shut. But in private was a whole different thing. I do agree that there was no reports of racism about the NAACP. The goals were different. Those of us that actually lived through that time, were grateful for the change.

Re: Tea Party Express racist Mark Williams kicked

"These are ultra-nationalists (or super patriots) who are defending their special pale-skinned privileges and power."

Stated by:
Leonard Zeskind, author of Blood and Politics: The History of the White Nationalist Movement from the Margins to the Mainstream, is president of the Institute for Research & Education on Human Rights. He is also a lifetime member of the NAACP.

JD - is this a racist quote?
Looks like it to me.
And it was by a member of the NAACP.
I do not understand your all-out defense of the NAACP.
Organizations are made up of people. Some people are racist.

Instead of focusing on the color of skin that started the organization, how about looking at what they endorse and who they endorse.
