I have to admit the western district is my favorite district.

Very good thread. I was doing my own little study on temptation...and part of it centered around the events in the Garden of Eden. I am about to head into a meeting...but will pick this up when I return in a little bit.

Pastor Poster...

You talked about the Garden of Eden....and Eve being tempted in the Garden. In that one moment....the devil used all manners of temptation....the lust of the flesh (the desire to eat that which had been forbidden), the lust of the eye (that tree which was so beautiful and special...to partake of it) and the pride of life (the temptation of eating of the tree would bring knowledge).

This very act destroyed that (what had to be) beautiful relationship with God. The devil is out to seek and destroy. In the Garden....he knew how to tempt Eve and that temptation led Eve to tempt Adam.

I think it is very important that you surround yourself with people who ENCOURAGE you in the Lord....not DISCOURAGE. I may not agree with everyone in here on different topics...but I can say...no one here is pulling me away from the Lord.

I am glad you decided to repost it.

Brother,

You have so much depth, yet you sell yourself short. Believe in yourself as the Lord believes in you.

Thank you for sharing.

It occured to me that after they had fallen for the serpents temptation, the serpent never speaks again in this passage. He wasn't there to defend Eve when the Lord came looking for her and her husband. His work was done.

What were his motives? Why does the devil tempt mankind? Some have said he did it to steal dominion over the earth from man. Others have said he tempts for the sheer evil of seeing us struggle. Another thought is that he tempted Eve with the purpose of driving a wedge between God and His creation.

I can't help but feel that there is something in him that enjoys the slow destruction of the soul. He is simply maliciously evil. He tempts for the sheer joy of it. Have you ever met anyone who put pressure on you to do something you knew was wrong. That is the same spirit that satan exhibited here.

Relationships are so important. Be careful who you share your good stuff with. Be careful who's leadership you submit to. Make sure you are listening to a voice that has YOUR best interests at heart.

Otherwise you may find yourself outside of the perfect place God had created for you with no moral authority.
In light of recent events, I thought I would bring this to the front page.
