Really?
I know the crime is bad in some parts and that is what I was referring to.
I didn't think there was blatant racism in Memphis on a sizable scale.
Isn't Memphis considered to be a major city?

I was talking about crime too, not race in particular.
I think a lot of racism now is subtle.

Do you think Matthews' remark was biggoted in someway?
Somehow a freudian slip, revealing his preconceived ideas that circle around all blacks are like this, act like this, speak like this and etc?

No, not really. I think a lot of people of both races are careful of how they speak publicly, and some not careful enough. And of course those that just don't care what people think about what they say.

I hate when good people get a bum rap by folks who refuse to take the time to think about who they're accusing and they're accusing them of.
Chris Matthews is not a bigot.
Neither do I think it right that folks have to tip-toe on EVERYTHING concerning race in America!
People need to get a grip, for real.

We've been conditioned to believe ANYTHING said about blacks by whites should be viewed as racism especially if you are a conservative.
If Chris Rock had called those lady basket ball players Nappy headed hos...everyone would have laughed

Not everyone.
I can remember very recently that there was a push by many to get away from the mainstreaming of blatant disrespect to black women.
The backlash started in the music industry, before Imus.
The Imus case added rocket fuel to an already sensitive situation.
Chris Rock would have been strongly criticized by many-- if it had been him at that exact moment making that same joke. However, it would not have caused the stir it did for Imus.
This wasn't Imus' first race-related offense though, right?
It's not like Imus and Chris Matthews had the same bio, right?

I lock my car doors driving through areas of SW Ohio.
I usually keep the doors in my house locked.
I avoid going downtown into Cincinnati and I sure wouldn't want to be there at night.
