How does removing state regulation of marriage harm the covenant? I think it's silly to have to get a piece of paper from the government to validate a sacred union before God.
Divorce isn't about a union...it's the destruction of a union, so the courts are sought out to make it fair for both parties regarding children and property. That isn't an "ungodly" view; that's a factual view of the divorce process.

Won't this free churches from potentially being required to perform a religious ceremony for a gay couple? The lack of state regulation could be a VERY good thing.

Hey Miss B. Don't read me wrong I believe gays as well as Pedophiles are perverted.
Gays will still try to force churches to perform ceremonies just to push their agenda.

Yes, but if the marriage ceremony is a church function, and the state gives civil unions for legal purposes, what reason would they have for forcing churches to perform ceremonies? They would get the legal recognition and benefits they want, and the church would have no involvement.
Wouldn't that protect the rights of the church, rather than infringe upon them?

You need your batteries changed, your beginning to sound like a broken record.
Marriage is a covenant that rightfully belongs to the church, the state should never have been involved in to begin with. You have shown on a number of subjects your complete lack of understanding on anything to do with the law. Divorce isn't about the marriage covenant, the state is involved for the purpose of what is to be done with the kids and the property.
If you recall there is a reason that God had laws for divorce, it was to protect those who were the most vulnerable. Even though divorce isn't God's plan he knew that those who could not protect themselves needed protection. But you would rather ask a woman who was beat senseless if she respected her husband.

No, this is a special record player, it is incapable of moving on to the next groove on the record because the power supply is weak.

Re: Obama czar: Abolish marriage!?
How was marriage and divorce handled prior to marriage licenses and government's involvement?
