So conference services have become nothing more than entertainment or a show you purchase a ticket for?
I can't believe some people. That is a totally twisted conclusion from what I said. I meant that people should be willing to financially support something like the General Conference more than they would entertainment.
How much do they charge to get in for the preaching?
Freely ye have received, FEELY give?

So it's okay to charge the people to hear the word of God so the ministry go get paid big bucks, eat steak dinners every night, and live a general life of ease. While someone will get up and scream to the lowly saints who in this bad economy, some of which are struggling to pay $50 or $100 to get in GC, plus hotel and travel fees, and then give, pledge, and give beyond their means (plus don't get behind on their tithes, or else they will go to hell).
Whatever, that's one big reason I am down on conferences. What happened to the days when people came to conferences and camp meetings and slept in tents, and on the ground and prayed and fasted? No, now its about money, and about fashion, and about who you know.
In addition to all this, since when did the church need to take their cues from the Dallas Cowboys?

It's not "forced." But registration does get you into the ballyhooed drama that is being presented. All others have to buy a ticket.
Besides, maybe (just maybe?) with a larger pool of paid registrations (maybe?) the offerings won't be "forced."

You may now register at the door as pre-registration has ended. ONE SERVICE PASSES are available at the conference. This is for the convenience of those who will be unable to attend the entire General Conference. One pass is required to attend each service with the exception of the Sunday evening Crusade Service. Please see link for Conference Schedule as you make your plans.
This is from the GC website, and is why I stated it as being "forced." If you want to attend any service you MUST pay either $75 for all, or $15 a service.

Nothing was twisted. You compared the registration @ GC to paying for entertainment and a football game.

I understand the rates for renting these large facilities have increased the past few years ... but I don't like charging people to attend church ... especially if they still take an offering on top of requiring payment for admittance.
I know Bro Downs will be conducting street meetings to get people into the GC services ... hopefully these people have $15 to pay the admittance fee, that or find free hope and salvation elsewhere...
Jason, you are totally missing the point. If people are willing to pay big money for entertainment, it should not be a problem to pay for something important, and it costs a lot of money to rent facilities for these conferences.
If I knew someone that wasn't saved that I could get to go to GF, I would pay for him.

I'm friends with Tim personally and have gone out with him for several weeks on his outreach evangelism he does from town to town, I would die of shock if he ever did anything skeezy like that. In fact he would be the first to call down fire and brimstone for charging someone for church, im sure if anyone was a visitor and wanted in he would be the first to push through the ticket line to get them in there and pay for them if he had to.
He really isnt about the money and other frou frou, he and his wife Holly gave up a NICE house and a prosperous mortgage company he owned to go out on the road and do what he does.
Hes a great guy, im on the lib end of the spectrum and he teases me sometimes, and hes surely strong on the 3 step way and standards, but he is a good guy and a conservative I can work with and like alot
Hes on the same team as us, and i really wish they would unban him (GoWinSouls) from here.
