I agree they shouldn't be used and especially by Christians.
I think that if black people want others to stop saying the "N" word, then they need to stop calling each other that. If they want it to drop from the vocabulary, then they need to be the first to step up. It does not help their cause - at all.
Absolutely. I don't have any patience for the Hip Hop crowd who throw the word around like it's nothing. It's wrong for African Americans to use the word just like it's wrong for any other ethnicity to use it.

It doesn't have some of the same historical connotations as some of the other phrases, but even with that phrase, I think it would be misleading to say that it has nothing to do with the race of the person.
Now, I've never said none of those phrases weren't plenty expressive
I'm just not sure we can ever distance ourselves from a person's color. It's ever before us and I think there are differences in the various races where two different people coming together may not be able to overcome and make it work. Notice I don't include everyone, but some people can't make it work.

September 16, 2009 Black Tea Party Express tour team member experiences racism
Lloyd Marcus
I traveled on the Tea Party Express tour bus as a singer/songwriter, entertainer and spokesperson — 16 states, 34 rallies in two weeks. I experienced vicious racial verbal attacks, not from the Tea Party protesters. The racial hate expressed against me all came from the left, people who support President Obama's radial socialist agenda.
As to the claim that the Tea Party protesters are racist, they are not. Quite the opposite. At every rally with thousands in attendance, I was overwhelmingly showered with affection and thanks for standing up for America. At one rally, a sign read, "Lloyd Marcus for President." These protesters are not racist. They are decent, hard working, oridinary Americans who love their country and disapprove of the racial changes planned by the Obama administration. Race is not an issue with them. They have deep concerns for their country.

MissBrat I like your posts and you usually bring a lot of common sense and good points into the discussion, but you seriously think it's a mainstream view to call the President a "Indonesian Muslim, a welfare thug, and a racist in chief". You really believe that's mainstream belief in this country?
David Frum has this one right. That is "paranoid fantasy" at best.
I don't think that the majority of people really think the President is an Indonesian Muslim (although he has ties/roots in both), but I certainly agree that he supports policies that make him look like a thug, and he has had several racist moments--as well as attending the church of a flamboyant racist for many, many years.
It's not beyond the pale to find such characterizations on a blog, which are usually chock full of exaggerations, hyperbole, satire, etc. I've read a LOT more vicious drivel about Bush, Christians and conservatives, and if you ever bother reading the comments under CBSNews articles, you know what I mean. (I'm sure other sites have the same trash.)
I'm just a little surprised that you're presenting that video as if it shows something shocking--as if it's "exposing" something terrible about those in the tea parties. That's the worst you can come up with?
If you're shocked by that, I'd hate to see your reaction after listening to a Michael Savage show.

Actually, the guy didn't say that is what Obama is. He said that is what he is acting like.
And you are right, Bratti - lost of vicious stuff against Palin, Bush, Cheney, Rove, etc.
Seriously, tstew, from my experience those words are used toward people that seem to not want to contribute anything valuable to society.
Would you, perhaps, agree that we are really focusing on what we dislike about a person, thinking we are addressing color, but with deeper thought realizing we are actually in disagreement with their character or actions?
And, no, I'm not painting, but I am scraping two dressers - no chemicals involved. lol
Hmmmm...maybe people have had bad experiences, but I know many people who have just learned racism, and have learned to walk, talk and act like a racist--and they reference entire groups of people with disgust and disdain without any just cause. It's no different than a black person assuming all whites are racists because they've encountered white racists.
I'd shy away from trying to find a good excuse for that.

I agree there are people like that. But, I know people who have called a black person the "N" word and they don't dislike black people at all. I guess it's the same as calling someone a sorry....... - yikes - how did I remember that word?!!
