Re: Are You Going To Attend The Tax Day Tea Party?

There is one here in Alexandria, La this afternoon from 5 to 7, unfortunately I will not be able to attend and I have a prior commitment for a revival service at one of the local Detention Centers (Prison). Please pray with us for a might out pouring of the Spirit.

God bless the Tea Parties and God bless America!!!!!!

I heard somewhere that a plan is in the making for a march on Washington to protest the Congress and Senates disregard for what the people want in regards to this whole financial fiasco.

His father, a Democrat, was a long-time Haskell County commissioner and school board member. As a child, Perry was in the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, as his son, Griffin, would also later do.[3][4][5] Perry graduated from Paint Creek High School.

Perry attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and one of A&M's 5 male cheer leaders[6] (called "yell leaders" at Texas A&M). He graduated in 1972 with a degree in animal science. While at Texas A&M University Perry successfully completed a static line skydive at Ags Over Texas (a United States Parachute Association dropzone), the dropzone that was then in operation at Coulter Field (KCFD) in Bryan.

Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force, completed pilot training and flew C-130 tactical airlift in the United States, the Middle East, and Europe until 1977. He left the Air Force with the rank of captain, returned to Texas and went into business farming cotton with his father.

In 1982, Perry married Anita Thigpen, his childhood sweetheart whom he had known since elementary school. They have two children, Griffin and Sydney. Anita Perry attended West Texas State University and earned a degree in nursing. She has spearheaded a number of health-related initiatives such as the Anita Thigpen Perry Endowment at the San Antonio Health Science Center, which focuses on nutrition, cardiovascular disease, health education, and early childhood programming.
All Hat and No cattle doesn't apply to him.

Most of these meetings aren't dumping tea in a river... but the questions are still relevant.
Brief review of history....

England was taxing the American people without allowing them elected representation in British Parliament.

The American people started thinking maybe this wasn't quite working for them, being as how they were British subjects and therefore allowed the same representations British subjects in other parts of the world were allowed.

The Tea Act was a nice decrease in taxes, however, it wasn't what the people had been demanding. It was still taxation without representation. This is the key phrase here. In America today, we have representation. If the people don't like their representation, they have GOT to elect some representation they can live with. Yes, I do think this will likely require some upheaval in the current political process.

Back to our history lesson.

The Tea Act was going to allow the East India Company to sell directly to the US Colonies without going through England. However, taxes were still to be collected on US soil and paid to England. The East India Company selling directly to the Colonies in this way also would have undercut the Colonial Merchants and damaged the business they were doing in smuggled tea.

So. Here we are. Decreased taxes, but not the cessation of taxes without representation that the American people were demanding. Keep in mind they weren't opposed to taxation itself, they just wanted some direct representation, not the representation England claimed the Colonists had in the elected members of Parliament, members they had nothing to do with electing.

So these ships get to Boston loaded with tea. If they unload, the people have to pay taxes on it. The people refuse to allow them to unload. The Governor refuses to let the ships go back. The tea just sits there.

So a few colonists get this brilliant idea to unload it w/o paying taxes on it.

What did it say? "We'd rather not have the tea at all than live with an unconstitutional taxation."

Why? Because the American Colonists recognized they were British subjects and as such, subject to the British constitution, rights and responsibilities. They wanted recognition as British subjects and to have their rights as British subjects honored.

I have no idea what could possibly be used in such a way now, concerning the stimulus package and government overspending. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it's actually constitutional. Elected representatives are allowing these things to pass, it's all operating exactly as the constitution details. I think some recall elections may be in order, for the states that allow such things. In the states that don't, I think someone should start working to get them passed so the people have some recourse when things go crazy. But, in order for recalls to work, enough people have to want them. I'm not sure enough people would go that far yet.

God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. ~Romans 3:24 from The Message

Because...

For the reason you cite above this is a very symbolic statement to many Americans and it symbolizes a stand against government overstepping their bounds.
