I'd have no idea how to answer that question.

I'm a homeschooling mama who ran out of ideas how to keep my kids home. They're in public school right now while I attend college and work full time. I *am* currently homeschooling myself through as much college as I can. I absolutely DETEST mandatory attendance and do every single thing I possibly can to avoid attending classes, including begging professors with mandatory attendance policies to make an exception for me. Online classes are amazing things...I take as many as I can.

Re: Are the Duggers UPC? Or some kind of Apostolic

It's true that the Duggars are Southern Baptists who home church with other families.

However, it seems that they get their dress standards and conservative ideas from the IBLP (Bill Gothard) organization. I personally like the family and have a lot of respect for them. The book they authored was really good called The Duggars: 20 & Counting.

BTW, they just had their 19th child Josie this month who was born prematurely at 1 lb. 6 oz. We need to keep them and the baby in our prayers.

Cool Re: Are the Duggers UPC? Or some kind of Apostolic

In an earlier episode a reporter inquired about the reactions when they were out in public and what questions they tired of answering.

One girl replied they were often asked if they were Pentecostal.

Ditto here!

Re: Are the Duggers UPC? Or some kind of Apostolic

Public school all the way!

We have had a bunch of kids homeschooled in our church. A few are genuinely good students. The others are honestly dumber than a stump. They can't really read. They REALLY can't spell. No math skills. Only goal is to get married and pop out kids. Really doesn't speak well of being homeschooled.

Now I know I shouldn't judge the whole program on their example, but it's hard to think highly of it when they are glaring examples of just how bad it can be. I and my fiancee were public schooled and loved it. I was in advanced sciences all through HS. I'm not aware of any homeschooling offering access to college labs and cadavers for biology class.

Those I know who are gung-ho about homeschooling are that way because they are bent on sheltering their kids form anything "bad". All they end up doing is setting them up for a culture shock when they go to college and don't have mommy there sheltering them from the real world in the living room.

Wink Re: Are the Duggers UPC? Or some kind of Apostolic

I'm against most pentecostal church schools.....not home schools.

We've lived in areas that did the church school____________and yes, they were dumb as a box of rocks. The teachers weren't qualified and the emphasis was not on the 3 R's.
Those wonderful programed learning workbooks.

In a homeschooled environment if the the mother/teacher is motivated the sky is the limit.
You're not limited by set class time. You can use the internet today which opens up untold topics.

Many cities have great organizations of home schoolers that include spelling bees, sports, music etc.

(my kids were public schooled and did very well )
