Re: What makes you mad?

Just coming back from a missions trip myself, I had to examine myself if I acted in way or fashion like Sister Alvear has suggested.

But I know that I am a guest and really I am just there to be a blessing not to change anything that my host pastor has going on.

I love the Asian people and their culture. We went out quite a bit with the churches young people and singles, who am I to change anything that they are doing? If anything we should always be students and look for things we can learn from other cultures.

I really do not like this attitude that Americans can display, if you can not go to another country in a humble servant type manner then stay home!

Re: What makes you mad?

I have heard of preachers going over to India and saying to each other-

"We need to preach the jewelry off of these people"And "We need to bring some of our ladies over here and teach these women how to dress!"

Ummm....no you don't!!!

I agree with Sister Alvear, American preachers have NO RIGHT as a visiting minister to try to turn these people in American Pentecostals--that is NOT their job!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I have no problem when someone says somewhere stinks...it probably does but I have a problem with the Americans that think (and not all think like that) that they are some kind of big boss...to a people that are less blessed...and the people pick up on attitudes..

I remember in one convention some BIG brand name preacher was sitting by me and I could not help but see his notes and he was writng a list of things that he saw that were wrong...
1. too much going in and out
2. too much talking..
and etc..

I reached over and said, Brother you do not know how far these people have already come...much farther than yours will have to go...they came from the depths of devil worship, from schools that have no rules so to speak, many have no education and it has never dawned on them they are making too much noise...

Yes, I believe in teaching and helping but not making it a point that I think I am from some place far superior than them...

lol am I ever on a roll...

and I am cooking...got beans on, meat loaf in the oven, chicken ready to fry, pork cooking, and potatoes peeled and eggs boiling....
When my wife was a teen just out of high school, she and her church group went to Brazil on a month long mission trip. On one of the first days there, her group met with an existing church group there and they had lunch together. Their group (the Brazilians) hosted, so shortly after lunch began, the wine bottle was passed around! (The good stuff.) The leader of my wife's group stood up in righteous indignation and announced that none of HIS kids would be partaking in this. To this day, she is embarrassed by this incident.

Yup. When I first saw Sherri's thread on "God Favor" I thought it said "God's Flavor" and I was going to reply that of course it is chocolate!
