I believe a place of torment is certainly real.
Yes the torment will be real. But in the end it will end.

21: What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22: But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. 6:21-23

The wages of sin is not eternal life in Hell. It is eternal death.

Existence does not necessarily mean no death. Separation means death. We die physically and do no cease to exist, though.

I am not sure. I do not spend too much time on these issues. I am concerned with going there or not. But I believe the torment is real.

Re: Hell In Question

I will say that I believe fire is part of hell, since, again, Jesus never used myths to support any thing he said by way of a parable. We have to ask ourselves if Jesus ever used a myth to propose a truth in a parable? Some say that hellfire was a Greek myth more than anything. But would Jesus use a myth like that? Where else did He use something similar by taking a myth and proposing a truth through it? Myself, I cannot see Jesus doing that. It makes me think there is actual fire, albeit a spiritual form, in the spiritual realm of the unseen in hell.

Some say he would use a myth or others misconceived ideas:

for example:

1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Man was born blind why would they ask if this man sinned? because some believed the myth about previous life and brought over into the next. Jesus didn't even correct but said "neither this man sinned or......"

He was born blind why even say he didn't sin??

I think they asked if he'd sinned because some did not know he was born blind.

I cannot say this is an indication that Jesus used myths, anyway, since Jesus said nothing about the man sinning before his birth. Lack of commenting on such a myth is not evidence he allowed it. Saying Jesus used a myth in the parable and saying Jesus did not correct these folks here is quite a bit different.

Take another look:

2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

They asked if he sin "that he was born blind"

they knew he was born blind when they asked the question.

Oh, sure!

Throw that up! (rolling of the eyes)!

Don't confuse the issue with facts!!!

Oh, right. Thank you. I concede. However, lack of correcting them still does not condone a myth as in using a myth of hellfire to tell a parable.

Re: Hell In Question

Hello tdc,
I don't know if it is that simple. I said that the worst part of it would be eternity without more. There might be more to lake of fire than that. All I do know is that I want to be in God and not outside of HIM.

Also, I suggested that hell could be between death and the final judgment. The lake of fire is after it. The Bible makes a distinction between the two.

God bless
