I think the reaction to experience is to first consider our ways, despite the unchristian hate some "christians" hurl at us, and ask God to correct us if we've warranted a rebuke, and then to "count it all joy" if we sincerely feel we were not wrong for what instigated the "hate".

Not too long ago ... we .... the Alicea klan received what we deemed as a personal attack from someone we know.
It went beyond disagreeing ...
It always hurts more when it's someone you know personally, IMO.
I think we dealt w/ it in an assertive yet Christ-like manner.

Yes, I have.
I have received hate mail on several occasions through a variety of methods including pm's, e-mails to myself, family members and my employer.
This correspondance was a coordinated Satanic attack carried out by a very small group of ministers who disagreed with some things I had said.
Very threatening, very hate-filled, very tactical and covert.

Yes it did as it pertained to the pastor we were just going to work with at the time and his family and it could have in the end been very detrimental to that relationship, this person even sent out letters to the entire church stating nothing but lies and hurtful and hateful things that could have scarred a persons reputation for years or even for good but thank God no one believed the lies and we faithfully proved ourselves over the years after that and yep... it all started thanks to a lovely hate email this person sent me
How did you respond?At first not very christlike...later on with love because that was the only way we could really reason within our own selves to treat the matter...And we left the problem alone...let God fix it because it was clear it was an attack and that we were supposed to be where we were and when we were there and when we turned the situation over to God it all fell into place. Things at first felt wrong because how could we walk away from someone when our circumstances had brought us to that place to work with people not to turn them away but when you realize that sometimes God lets circumstances come up to make your character more of what He wants and teach you how to lean on Him more, that is what we began to do and all the rest fell into place and we are much better people because of a lesson we learned.. all be it the hard way but one well learned at that.
I would not ever change that lesson we had to go thru. Sometimes things like attacks on someones character or even just a simple attack can seem like nothing to some but even those little attacks are what makes a person more of who God wants them to be

The individual in question is an independent home-church type who is an Amish wanna-be. He wrote a long (several page) article deparaging me and even went to my familiy seeking to have it published in the newspaper with their names included... thankfully they refused - (as did the newspaper unless he paid the regular premium advertising rate) We reconciled somewhat when his wife died last spring and I went to the visitation.
While there were some other Pentecostals who voiced their disagreement with what we did, those would not be classified as backlash or hatemail.

The "Delete" button works very well in these cases. If someone hates me because I love the Lord, and I stand with His word, then I guess I am doing something right....count it all joy...
