Re: Pentecostal Testimonies

It gave me a love for reading my Bible
It gave me a love for praying
It gave me great examples of courage and conviction in some of the people around me
It gave me a premise that God loves to hear from us every day
Great music and therefore, a love of music

Re: Pentecostal Testimonies

Pentecost.

Brought my father back to it's doors in his early 30's. It brought him out of a life of drinking.
It brought my mother out of her good but dry and empty life in the Anglican church. In spite of the deal she had with my dad when they married to never take thier future children to a Pentecostal church.

It brought up two children, a boy and his younger sister, to know no other way... to know there is no other way.

It saw those two children baptised in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost from childhood.

It saw the older brother back to church after a few years tasting what the world had to offer and realizing with clarity it couldn't compare with one moment in the presence of God.

For me...
My entire foundation rests on my experience of Pentecost. My entire foundation is built on the old time Pentecostal way of putting faith in nothing but God and His word.
This foundation has kept me through personal trouble and is still standing sure.

I've recieved far more from this Pentecostal way than I ever deserved.
Not going anywhere, till heaven!

Re: Pentecostal Testimonies

My Dad received the Holy Ghost at a camp meeting in Jackson TN and was baptized in Jesus Name by William Booth-Cliburne.

My Mom received the Holy Ghost at a brush arbor meeting that my Dad was preaching and he baptized her and both of her parents and all of her brother and sisters.

Pentecost was the way I was raised, with all of it's values and all of it's short comings, but Pentecost gave me the Apostolic Truth and I love her for it.

You beat me to this question! Since Old Paths has got to be close to 100 years old I am thinking it must have been much earlier.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

My Dad's Pentecostal expericence surely predates 1945 and the Merger.

As a matter of fact my Dad used to say that "the PAJC just swallowed false doctrine and that it would come back to bite the UPC".

And it did.

Re: Pentecostal Testimonies

Growing up in Pentecost has prepared me most of life's experiences. I received the Holy and was baptized in Jesus name in 1969. My most memorable experience was beating Sis. marker in sword drill the Friday I turned 12. Sword drill was for 12 and under and 12 and up. Sis. Marker was the smartest person I knew. She knew the scriptures and her Sunday School class was the highlight of my youth.

Bible quizzing and memorization was my life through my teens and I love the word of God to this day.

Bible College at JCM was such an experience...wouldn't want to do it again but wouldn't trade it for anything either.

Evangelizing, assisting at a couple churches, starting a home missions work, and Pastoring some of my best experiences.

Unlike some, I have had a few sins in my adult years but the best thing that ever happened to me was the mercy and grace of God. I thank the Lord for sparing my life in a near fatal car accident in 1991. He didn't have to do it, but He did.

I thank and love my Jesus.

Blessings, Rhoni

Could you elaborate on that?
I'm not real sure what you mean.
