Re: LapTop Suggestions?

I have an Apple. It's really nice, too fancy for my purposes, but I let them talk me into buying "the best laptop for the money." Don't fall for it, unless you know you will be using your computer for fancy-schmancy stuff.

The laptop keypads is what has held me back in buying one before now.

Those sound good. However, this is July now, so I guess the xp are now extinct?

Hope this helps. Only my opinion!

Yep...we got our first one from Radio Shack...seems like it was nearly $10,000.00. Very expensive and slow.

I really like Dell Esther, especially after having Gateway as my first PC.
I like Dell as well. I had Dell at work and I have it at home.

My brother bought a HP that he really likes. I like his screen, it is very clear.

Not extinct, they just aren't given out standard with new computers nowadays.
You can still find XP software.

I still have an XP disc.

Esther,

When I went to work for the company I am empoyed by now I gave up my nice office with the big executive desk and credenza I had bought for it along with my nice desktop computer.

All of a sudden I was having to use a laptop on a daily basis. I was so frustrated with the smaller keyboard and lack of mouse and keypad that for the first six months or year I carried around a full size keyboard and mouse.

I would plug them in whenever I got to where I was gong. It must have been a funny sight me waking in the office with my laptop in its caee and my full size keyboard and mouse under my arm.

However I discovered that like most new things in life you can learn them and they do become second nature. For about four years now I switch back and forth throughout the day from my personal desktop to my work laptop or personal laptop and don't miss a beat. Once you get used to it a notebook keyboard is just fine. The key is to give it time.

As far as brands go I recommend Dell but also like Toshiba and Acer. Acer has been coming on strong in the market. A few weeks ago I know that Circuit City had an incredible deal on a dual core Acer 15.4 widescreen notebook with 2 gigs RAM, CD / DVD burner, Vista home premium, etc all for just $549.

Best Buy, Staples, Wal Mart, and Sams Club are all carrying Dell now also. When I was in Best Buy a few weeks ago they had a very nice Delll notebook for $549.

Re: LapTop Suggestions?

Should I just bite the dust and go with a Vista and learn it? Is it going to be the thing of the future?

I have a Family Tree Maker and Photoshop that needs to be compatible with it. Any way to find out if it is?

Re: LapTop Suggestions?

Esther,

I would not get XP because it is the older operating system and eventually will not have support from Microsoft.

VISTA isn't perfect but it is not some horrible system either. It is very similar to XP so you won't have much of a learning curve.

VISTA does eat up a lot of RAM so you need to get at least 2 gigs of RAM memory with your computer and I would get one with VISTA home premium rather than VISTA basic. I have computers with both and premium is much better.

Vista is not a terrible OS. It probably will work with PS just fine depending on how old it is.

But if you really want XP find a company that will sell you a laptop without any software and then buy xp

Depending on what you are doing with XP you need at least 2 gigs too. My vista has 2 but I really want 3
